First time C-Sec! Any advice?

I am due for my first child and first c-sec in just a matter of days. I am a little nervous about the whole thing but very excited! Any advice anyone wants to share with an anxious person?

Re: First time C-Sec! Any advice?

  • Just had RCS yesterday. Baby is 7.4 lbs and 19in long. The anticipation before hand was the worst part. You barely feel them touching you, except for when they push the top of your stomach to help get the baby out. Other than that I just tried to relax as much as possible. In less than 12 hrs they had me stand and move to a chair for a while. Make sure you stay on top of the meds and drink water. Once you are unplugged from everything they will have get up to walk, just take laps around the hall as much as you can when you are strong enough. You will be fine, try not to let your nerves get to you! Good luck!

  • stay on top of your pain meds, make sure you take the stool softener they offer, get up and walk as soon as you can (or as soon as they'll allow).

    Good luck!

All of the things mentioned above. I had great experiences with both of my c-sections. I found it helpful during the c-section to have my DH talk to me and distract me. After he left one of the nurses continued to talk to me. I didn't feel anything and it felt like I was only on there a few minutes.

i found a nursing pillow helpful, even though my LO is ff. the pillow helped to splint and protect my incision. Also I would definitely getup and move around as soon as they will let you, it will help you work the soreness out.

Also you might want to think about how you want to handle visitors because chances are you will be stuck in bed for the first 24 hours with a catheter, IV, and an epidural. You might not feel up to tons of company. While I wasn't in pain I did want a nap.

Good luck! You will do really well!

  • How exciting your LO will be here soon!  I am also a FTM with a scheduled c-section planned for March 29.  My cousin has had three of them and her advice to me was to get up and walk as soon as they will let you.  She said she got up every 2-3 hours and walked and it helped her recover so much faster.

I had a csection Friday after pushing for over 3 hours. Definitely walk as PP said. I came home yesterday and I feel pretty good and am getting around pretty well because of the walking I did. Move to chairs to sit for a bit when you can that helps too.

Don't ever turn down pain meds even if you don't feel like you need them because you will. The csection itself doesn't take long at all and it's just pressure.

Good luck! The anticipation is much worse than the actual procedure.

  • Good luck to you.

I agree with the above advice.  Also, I would avoid wearing pants as long as possible.  I found it really tough to just put on underwear because of my incision.  Have gowns or a robe to wear.  I ended up wearing nursing tanks with a robe while in the hospital.

  • Try to relax and during the procedure just focus on the parts you will want to remember.
Also you will need underwear and pants that come higher than your insicion
  • Thank you for all the advice. I always feel alot better when people have positive things to say about their experience with it all. Thanks everyone. I now have one week left and he is here!!
