mastitis/plugged duct help

Hi,

I'm dealing with another round of mastitis and am on day 3 of meds which have helped the fever/chills etc.   I still feel like there is something clogged in my breast though. I can see a different shape on one side and feel an area of hardness that is not loosening.   I'm pumping every 2 hours or so, doing warm compress and massage, which have seemed to help (today I was able to pump a little bit more than the past few days).

My questions are:  How long does a plugged duct stay typically, is there anything else I should be doing and at what point do I go back to the doctor??

 Thanks!

Re: mastitis/plugged duct help

  • Can you try dangle feeding or dangle pumping?

Get on all fours with baby underneath you and massage and nurse it out.

I had a clogged duct that only came undone when baby was mad and thus nursing with a vigorous passion.

If you get them often you can take lecithin to make your milk thinner.

  • Dangle feeding worked it right out for me. I wasn't able to get anything with the pump, and read that if it hasn't resolved within 24 hours, to go to the doctor to keep from getting an infection.
