I posted yesterday about DS being really sick.. things just kept getting worse.. his breathing was so poor.. short, shallow breaths.. constantly wheezing.. etc. Ended up taking him to the ER. They did a breathing treatment and it's helped greatly, though he's still really wheezy. They've sent us home with a nebulizer to use on him every 4 hours and will follow up with the ped in a day or 2. He was great for a good hour or 2 after the treatment, but now, 2 1/2 hours later, he's already so wheezy again! I'm looking forward to 6:00ish when we can use it again! Hopefully this will help him get some rest, too.. not sleeping.. not eating.. not breathing well.. talk about a nightmare weekend.
Ugh.

I'm so sorry, bc your poor nerves have to be completely shot by now!
My DS has been sick forever (though not having breathing problems thankfully), and he's just now responding to the prescription meds he started on Friday. So maybe the longer your DS uses the nebulizer, the better he'll feel? Because there's probably so much stuff stuck up in there, that maybe it'll take a few treatments before he'll feel good long enough between them?
I'm glad you got some answers in form of treatment and hope he feels better soon!

Thanks guys! Still no luck on the sleeping front.. and, we're almost to the point where we can give him another treatment! It's terrifying when he's having a hard time breathing.. coming from someone with asthma, I know how scary it can be when I can't breathe.. and I can actively say "HEY! I can't breathe!".. terrifies me that he can't communicate to say when the struggle is really difficult
I agree, Katigox.. hopefully after another few treatments, we'll have longer periods in between where he's not as wheezy. I'm hoping it will help break up some of the congestion so he can "move" it out of his lungs.. at least, that's what the ER doc said should happen.
My nerves are shot.. for real.

They didn't. I guess maybe because his fever had broken today? She seemed very casual about the fact that it's most likely a virus, but the concern was more on his inability to breathe well.. Maybe the Ped will test him for this when we follow up? I was sort of wondering the same thing.. but, then when I read about RSV, it just said it's viral and there's no "treatment" for it unless a secondary infection occurs.. And, yes, it is rotten
I'm so exhausted!

He has already had allergy testing a month or so ago due to eczema and came up negative for all "typical" allergies..

Thanks!! Daddy is home with him today and tomorrow -- I've called, oh maybe a dozen or so times already LOL! But, DH says he's doing well.. and the wheezing is much better than it was.. especially after the breathing treatments.. the "gunk" in his chest sounds much looser, too, after the treatments.. hoping this means this cold is on it's way out!!
Fevers are scary.. especially since my nephews have a history of febrile seizures.. but, the wheezing.. and not being sure whether they're having difficulty breathing, or just wheezing from the cold, etc.. it sucks big time.. especially because he can't say "Hey, Mom, i can't breathe!!".. ugh!
He has been such a great sport, though.. I really do have to AW him for that.. despite feeling absolutely terrible, he's been quite content and not nearly as miserable as I would have expected.. I love my little guy so much!!
