18-month-old crawls down stairs

I think my DD could walk down the stairs holding a rail, but she doesn't want to. On a rare occasion she'll walk down the stairs holding my hand, but mostly she drops my hand and turns aournd in favor of crawling down backwards fast. When did your kids start walking down the stairs?

Closer to two is when I start letting them do it by themselves.

My 19 month old still crawls or scoots on her butt down the stairs.

I prefer she do it this way still. She seems safer and more confident that way and it's all that matters to me.

Most kids I know are closer to 3 before they actually walk down the steps.

DD walks down with one hand on the rail (or the banister spindles) and one hand holding mine. I truly wish she'd still go down crawling, it seems so much safer!

LOL - Thanks, all! Sounds like my DD has more sense than I do in this matter.

(In general DD has my DH's personality which is easy going and cautious. If we are fortunate enough to have a 2nd child and he has my personality, energetic and impulsive - I'd be mimicing some of your posts. Yes )

When our child was around 14 to 15 months old he was able to walk down the stairs by himself, still scares our best friends to death when he does it at their house. He is 21 months old now.

He wasn't able to walk down by himself (holding the rail) until 21 months, but he could walk down holding my hand by about 18 months. He never crawled down stairs, though, he always wanted to walk.
