Baby Showers

Shower at my house?

My SILs have offered to throw me a shower, which is lovely.

They've asked about using my house as a location. It's really ideal, large enough for a crowd, big enough kitchen to prepare food in, and they would come in and do decorating, set up, and of course clean up. It's also a central location for friends and family that would travel in.  And of course, free, giving them more of a budget for decor and catering.

Am I missing a potential etiquette breach by having my shower in my own house? I'm definitely not hosting, but don't want people to think I'm throwing my own shower...

It's totally fine to have a shower hosted by someone else in your house.

  • My mom and SIL asked to have mine at my house.  Same reasons as you.

I told them I was totally fine with it, as long as it's clear that I'm not hosting my own shower.  My mom is mailing invitations with their names listed as hosts for RSVP purposes so I'm not worried about it.

Another bonus is not having far to transport gifts!

  • Thanks - I really couldn't see an issue, but wanted to run it by the masses to see if I was missing something!

  • I sure hope it's "ok", because I threw my friend's shower at her place, and she's throwing my shower at mine! Haha! ;)

  • I see no problem using your home as long as the invitations clearly list your SIL's as the hostesses and people RSVP to them.
  • Totally OK and very convenient!

  • I don't really see anything wrong with the idea of having a baby shower in your own house hosted by other people. I guess it will become more meaningful since everybody will be celebrating your pregnancy in your home because it's where you must keep all the happy and memorable events of your life, like having a baby and being a Mom.

  • Mine is also being thrown at my house by my MIL, I'm not too happy because 1. I didn't want a baby shower, everything is already bought and ready anyway and 2. I have to clean my house at 37wks pregnant before the shower and after and 3. I have to decorate by myself....can you imagine my huge self hanging banners alone and streamers? my DH works 90 hrs a week and won't be here to help.....

If it's really that much more trouble than it's worth, I would just call it off. I don't know your MIL but it sounds like she is trying to do something nice for you, and if you're this unhappy about it, perhaps you're better off not having it.
