Like some other Mamas, I'm not too adventurous with LO's food. I'm too nervous, but I know she needs to be exposed to more, and it would be a lot easier if she ate more table food! I read on other posts that some LOs have been eating eggs and strawberries. I was waiting until 1 year for this, but if she ate eggs it would be so cheap and easy!
What No-No foods have you given LO? And, are you lenient because it's not your first baby or just a risk taker?!
Re: s/o foods- what "no no's" have you tried?
We've only avoided actual nuts (for choking reason) and honey because those were the only ones we were told to avoid. DH gave DS a muffin without thinking twice about it, and it had nuts and craisins in it. I accidentally gave my son Honey Nut Cheerios and Bourbon chicken that has honey in the recipe because it slipped my mind.
This is my first kid, but what I read (and I read a lot of different things) told me that it's okay to give kids a lot of those "No Nos" as long as you're dilligent on watching for reactions. Micah hates strawberries, but I've offered them. I think they're too tart for him right now. He loves eggs, and yes, they are incredibly easy, especially on those nights that Mommy and Daddy want to pig out on something greasy and terrible..... or eat Hot Pockets and ice cream.
At first, I was pretty scared about feeding LO, but since we started BLW at 6 months, it's amazing to see what he can and will actually eat and enjoy!

DD has been eating whole eggs since she was 7 months. The pedi recommended it as a good finger food and I didn't even realize other people were avoiding egg whites until I read it on here. But like I said, she's been eating them for months with no problem.
The only thing we avoid is honey, nuts, raisins and raw carrot.
we have given egg, but you should go really slow on it so you can assess any potential food allergy.
Still no nuts, nut products or honey for us.
no fish or seafood (but I hate all food that lives in the water)
We have not really tried the more citrus-y fruits because it can burn babies bottom when they go.
We have also primarliy avoided spinach but she will get a little bit of it in an omlette once in a while. And we give her broccoli which is also a no-no.
I don't think he has had any nut products or shellfish (because we don't really eat it in the winter) but he has had pretty much everything else. Including honey because I shared my cucumber salad forgetting the dressing was made with it. Though he was exposed at least once to peanuts, my mom found him with one in his mouth after their Christmas party. He must have found it under the table or something.
ETA Why no spinach or broccoli? Broccoli was his first food. I also try to do a lot of spinach for the iron aspect (in meatballs, eggs, quesadillas, etc)
My ped only said no honey, nuts or shellfish. Tuna was not a hit, neither were eggs. They LoVe strawberries! Just started broccoli/apple from a pouch. Still need to try orange, beef, grapes, pork and other fish. Logan will eat chunky foods, but Parker not so much so we still offer a lit of purees. I hope to start waffles for breakfast in the next few days once I go buy them, lol
DD has had pretty much everything except honey. Our pedi says everything but honey is okay.
Although I guess she's never had shellfish because we don't really eat it that often. And she hasn't had nuts themselves because I don't really bake with them, but she has had peanut butter.
ETA: Also, my pedi has said that honey in cooked products (Honey Nut Cheerios, graham crackers, honey in baked goods, etc.) is okay because the risk for botulism is so reduced in cooked products.
I'm so glad you said that. I thought that but the girls on the 69 board were freaking out about anything honey at all.

I was told commercial products were okay, but honey cooked at home is not because home ovens don't use high enough temps to kill the spores.
