March 2013 Moms

Nonchalant OB (in a good way)

I have a repeat c/s scheduled for March 13 at 39 weeks.  My ob, DH, and I had discussed VBACs early on, but after discussing our risks, we had decided on a c/s.  DH was very much into the c/s idea, but I think that it was just the only birth method he understood - our girls were born that way, he and his brother were born that way, etc.  For me, the VBAC risks seemed to outweight the c/s risks.

I am 37 weeks and my main concern at my appointment today was what to do if I go into labor before March 13.  The doc went through the warning signs of labor again, but then he said that the method of delivery if I go before March 13 is up to me.  If I want to go for a VBAC, just let him know.  He said I was not committed to anything.  Then he added on that he is willing to check my cervix at my last appointment and if I am dilated, he would be willing to wait a few days beyond March 13.  Or if I am dilated on March 13, he is willing to break my water and go from there.  The possibilities are apparently endless.  Given that there are risks either way, he says the decision is mine and that is the way it should be.

Woah.  For some reason, this new "unknown" has me really excited.

Re: Nonchalant OB (in a good way)

  • I decided to try for a VBAC, and I'm definitely overwhelmed by all the different possibilities, especially since my last labor began with my water breaking and I had no contractions until I started on pitocin. I'm making a list of all the questions I still want to clarify with my OB about the process. I'm nervous, but hopeful! I think you will know what's right for you...once I decided on the VBAC, I just had this weird feeling of relief.

Thanks for sharing!  I am having the same weird feeling of relief and DH seems very supportive of my flip-flop.
