Swim lessons

My dad is wanting to take lo to infant self rescue swim lessons at about 67 months as a gift to us. Is anyone else planning on these and at what she? Any experience? My dh is iffy and I'm nervous as well but I know no babies have drown during it but it still scared me watching YouTube videos!

    My brother took our nephew. They enjoyed it. I never witnessed the class but saw some home videos. We are investigating early swim classes.

    I would like to do this with my daughter. my parents are her daycare and they live on a lake they told me they are planning on taking her on the boat this summer show me around 8 months at that time. also I want her to take swim classes because I don't want her to be afraid of the water like I was.

    If it's free than do it. It's never a bad idea to get baby used to the water. The deal with infant swim lessons though is that you need to keep it up if you expect LO to learn how to swim. We did them around a year old and he had a blast but I don't think he learned anything.

    I'm hoping to take DS this spring or summer. They have classes for 6 mos+. As long as I'm ready to get back in a swimsuit, haha. I like the "we don't submerge the babies" clause our YMCA includes on their class description :)

    We are starting swim lessons with my 6 month old on Saturday.  I'm super excited for it!  I don't expect him to learn to swim, but I hope to get him more comfortable with the water and to learn things that I can do with him in the water on my own.

    I would love to...but the classes by us are close to $80/month.  I'm not sure we want to pay that much.  He'll absolutely take swim lessons when he is older (3-4 years old).  I guess I'm just not sure if the benefit of infant swim lessons is worth the investment knowing I'd never leave my LO unattended near an open body of water.

    We just started swim lessons with my two year old a few weeks ago, and he LOVES it, but he always loved being in the bath (a full tub with me in it) when he was teeny as well.  I think that if there's any possibility your LO would be near water and the lessons were free I'd go ahead.  I agree though that if you're going to start them, that you may consider sticking with consistently swimming, as I could see where they wouldn't easily retain them.

    Infant self rescue courses and traditional swim lessons are very different. The swim rescue courses are a lot of work for the baby and as a parent, they are very hard to watch. A lot of crying and thrashing goes on. They are dunking your kid under water and pushing their limits. That being said, I highly recommend it. I just wanted to prepare you. DD1 took infant swim rescue at a year old and learned how to float and eventually swim. She is a total fish now and loves the water! She swims, floats and all that good stuff!
