Hiccups

My LO is 16 weeks tomorrow. She still gets the hiccups multiple times a day. Every day. They don't go away unless I whip out some boob and even then sometimes they don't. WTF? When is she going to outgrow this? They really annoy her.

Re: Hiccups

  • K gets them occasionally so IF he will take a paci I give it to him to help with them.

  • The paci is always a big if here too. Usually only to nap. I've tried offering it for hiccups and she just fusses. Why do they get them? Why so often? My pedi doesn't seem to have any answers.

  • K doesn't get them as often as she did when she was younger but now when she does get them they seem to last a looooong time.

PS.  If/When I get the the hiccups once in a day... it is for sure that I will get them atleast 2 more times before the day is over. It's so weird.

I heard it is the body's way of naturally trying to get rid of gas.

  • Hallie gets them pretty often as well. She has since she was in my tummy. :D I have no good advice but you're not alone!

  • same here, she gets them 1-2x a day and it can be like an hour after she eats...going to ask pedi at next appt
  • My DD gets them when she's jostled too much or too soon after a nursing. It's like she eats too fast or something. Nursing gets rid of them if she'll eat more, but sometimes she doesn't want to. I think a change in breathing pattern is what brings them on but it also makes them go away. (That's why they go away instantly with a spoonful of peanut butter. But suckling/swallowing works for babies!)
  • I've found that a little bit of gripe water gets rid of them almost instantly! I don't use it every time but when the hiccups start to make her mad, it works great.
