Trying to Get Pregnant

Taking a break

Well, I just got a promotion at work so I think it's best I put off TTC a little while. Don't want to mess things up by going on maternity leave 8 months after I show up! DH doesn't think it's a big deal, but I would feel better taking a break. We've been TTC for 7 months now with no luck, so maybe it was meant to be anyway... Any advice on keeping my spirits up/words of wisdom?

Re: Taking a break

  • That's a tough decision to make. I just started a new position as well and I worried it would be bad to take maternity eave soon after starting. But then I figure if my employer is going to frown upon it then I probably don't want to work there because how are they going to feel about any other family things or having to take off days when LOs are sick, etc. I'm leaving it in God's hands.  Also....I figure it could still take a while to conceive and so I may have wasted timed by putting TtC on hold.

Sorry that probably wasn't helpful, just my experience.

  • If you would feel better taking a break, then do it.  Use the time to focus on your new position and how it can benifit your family now and in the future.

    PAIF/SAIF Welcome!

  • Will you be starting an entirely new job with new coworkers or will it be a promotion within your current office?

I'd say if its all new people, I'd take a couple months off. New jobs/environments are stressful enough, who wants added stress/distraction of TTC?! If its a promotion within your office where you know everyone, I'd be more willing to continue TTC.

  • I think if you want to take a break, then take a break. You have to feel comfortable and you don't want to announce your pregnancy at work and feel uneasy about the reaction. So if starting your new job and getting to know your new coworkers and boss before starting to TTC again makes you feel more comfortable then I agree it's the best decision!

And I hate to say it, but you know what they say... "When you're not trying..."

  • We took a few breaks during different fertility treatments.  For me, it was most helpful to focus on enjoying the positives about being child-free.  I made it a point to go out with friends more often, drink a little more than I should, sleep in late, eat sushi, have a lazy weekend of doing absolutely nothing, go for an unplanned weekend away just me and DH...stuff that you might not be able to do later.  Although it was hard at first, I ended up really enjoying and appreciating our breaks.
