IKEA: SPOLING Changing Table

Does anyone have the IKEA Spoling changing table?  Its foldable, has a lot of pockets...seems really convenient because it can be quickly folded up and put to the side...  I'm not interested in having a pack'n play with changing table, so thought this could be useful.  But I noticed it doesn't have weight capacity on the site - anyone know?

Thank you!

Re: IKEA: SPOLING Changing Table

  • Oh thank you!!  I'm on my work computer and so many sites are blocked...

Now has anyone had luck with/use of it??

  • i've never used it but I was actually just at IKEA over the weekend doing some nursery shopping.  I ended up getting a bookshelf and a dresser which were so reasonably priced.  but I did notice with cribs and changing tables that they were very shaky (at least the ones they had assembled and displayed) to the point that I thought they may be unsafe.

  • I've bought one but haven't put it together yet. I never used a changing table with my twins, but the locations I used to change them don't really exist anymore (ottoman in the living room, double bed in the nursery).  I thought it seemed like a nice option, particularly since we don't have a traditional dresser in this baby's room.

  • I tend to agree with another poster's comment about the furniture seeming shaky.  My sister-in-law and I were looking at it this weekend and we both immediately noticed how wobbly it was---specifically the model you linked up.  I guess there are maybe people who like it, but if you don't have a store close to you where you can check it out in person before purchasing, I would tend to air on the side of caution and maybe look into something at a store you can visit.

I'm not sure if someone else mentioned it already, but the dressers they offer seem to work really well with a changing pad.  Of course that doesn't provide the safety bar that some other tables offer though, so you of course have to go with what you feel comfortable with.

  • Thanks for the notes! I should've included in my original note that this would just be used on our main floor...we're likely getting the 8 drawer Hemnes dresser for the nursery and will use the top for changing. We have an IKEA about an hour away and will be checking a lot of this out in person. Thanks!!

We had the Spoling changing table and Gulliver crib from IKEA and they were both great quality, very stury and safe. In fact, my sister is now using both items for her daughter and they are as good as new after 2 kids.

We loved the changing table, but we used it mostly for storage. I didn't want a changing table to begin with because we had a tiny house and our dresser was too tall to use with a changing pad. We ended up getting the Spoling when he was about 4 months old and kept it in the living room. We stored our CDs, cloth wipes, and diaper rash cream in it and folded it away when we had company. The weight limit is 25 lbs so we stopped changing him on it around 1 year but continued using it for storage until my sister had her daughter and we gave it to them.

  • We use the Spoling changing table and the Sundvik crib and love both.  No complaints at all... both are very sturdy, and I love the way the changing table kind of cradles baby down inside of it instead of baby sitting on top like with more typical changing tables.
