C-sections

Pregnant after c-section

My husband and I lost our sweet son, Isaac 4.5 months ago at 38 weeks.  He was delivered via emergency c-section.  We have been mourning the loss of him the past few months, but also feel ready to try to get pregnant again.  I have had an incredible recovery, and feel so great physically.

For those of you who had a c-section and are pregnant again, how long did you wait before you got pregnant?  I've had two doctors say it would be okay after a few months, and my actual OB/GYN doctor said that 6-9 months was recommended, but she did say that 5 months would be okay.

I'm just curious how long you waited before you got pregnant after a c-section?  I know it's different for everyone, etc.  But I just want to know what you all have done.  Thanks!  :)

Re: Pregnant after c-section

  • Very sorry for your loss.  I actually got pregnant 5 months after having DD.  I miscarried and got pregnant again the next month and had DS.  My OB actually told me I was good to try at any point around 4 months.  She may have told me sooner but I just waited for my annual exam to ask.  I had no problems with #2 as far as the c-section and such.  I had a 2nd c-section with DS.

  • Mine said to wait 6 months. At 4 months she called and said my blood work all came back normal and it would be okay if I got pregnant sooner. We expected it to take longer so we started trying. I got pg with Lucas at 4 months pp. I had no complications during my pregnancy with him, the c/s or the recovery by having them so close together.

  • I am so sorry for your loss. I don't recall my OB making a recommendation, but I got pregnant with this baby about a month after DS's 3rd birthday (they'll be almost 4 years apart).

  • I am incredibly sorry for your loss. DH and I got pregnant when dd was about 15 months old.
  • First I just want to say I'm sorry for the loss of your son. I lost my twins 15 months ago and they were also born via emergency c-section (at 26 weeks). My oldest twin is named Isaac too <3

My specialist told me there was no medical reason why I would need to wait longer than six months to get pregnant again. We started TTC at six months, but didn't end up getting pregnant until 9 months.

The only thing I've noticed is that in the beginning when my uterus was expanding my stomach would hurt along my incision line. I don't think this is necessarily a result of getting pregnant 9 months after my c-section though, from other people I've talked too they all had similar experiences even with more time between pregnancy and c/s. Past first trimester I haven't had any pain that I consider connected to my c/s.
