Re-posted from Breastfeeding board...
I haven't posted on these boards in forever, and wasn't quite sure the right place to ask this question. Basically for 3 1/2 years straight I have been pregnant, nursing, nursing while pregnant (up to middle of second trimester), then nursing again...with no breaks.
My question is has anyone noticed major changes in existing moles or freckles during their pregnancy and/or nursing, that concerned your dermatologist? I had a freckle looking mole on my fourth toe since as long as I could remember. Then it changed color slightly from pale brown to dark spots, still flat. My derm really freaked me out but then said I could wait to have it removed til I was done nursing. I of course wanted to be proactive, so last week I had the procedure and now I am limping around and waiting for the results.
I have no family history of skin cancer, I am caucasian and dark hair/dark eyes/medium skin tone.
My derm suggested that one possible cause for the change in the mole is the hormonal fluctuations in my system since 2009...does this make sense?
Re: XP Breastfeeding and mole changes
Similar to you I've been pregnant or nursing 34 of the last 36 months. I do have a history of pre-cancerous moles so I get checked regularly. I had 2 spots removed in Dec - both tested normal.
Those were the first 2 I've had to get off in 10 years and I do think the hormone changes probably elevated the situation. She said it's normal to get new moles, freckles, and skin tags during pregnancy though.
Pregnancy and bf-ing can absolutely cause skin changes. I developed 2 skin tags at my bra line (they would bleed when I went running - yow!) that needed removal.
