how did it work? If you saw a position you were interested in, did you send it to your recruiter to explore or did you submit a resume on your own? Did you use more than one recruiter or is that a faux pas? I'm such a novice at this!
I use recruiters quite often. I use more than one recruiter at a time. If I see a job out there I would send it to my best recruiter to see if its one of thier clients and he/she can expedite things for me. I also apply for jobs on my own.
So, I would advise you to use as many recruiters as you can manage, also apply on your own. Having more options increases your chances of getting a job.
Also, some recruiters ask if you are working with another recruiter. It is totally fine to say Yes. It adds some healthy competition to the job search.
Keep in mind that recruiters are trying to make money so it is in thier best interest to land you a job!
Good Luck and let me know if you need more details.
Ditto the PP's. I think I've used a recruiter with every job search I have been through. It is just normal in my industry to do so and most of the big employers hire exclusively through recruiters rather than hiring on their own.
I agree that you should use more than one recruiter. Recruiters tend to have clients that they work with regularly, so different recruiters will have contacts at different companies. If you limit yourself to one recruiter, you will not have access to all of the jobs that are out there.
A good recruiter will help you weed out the jobs that are not right for you without you having to go to the company to interview, and they will also do your negotiating for you, which I really like. I am not good at negotiating on my own.
