3rd Trimester

Surrogacy

So I watch Friends ever night before I go to bed and I am on the season where Phoebe is a surrogate for her brother.  My question to you all is, now that we have all be pregnant and really know what it's like (because let's face it, you can't know what it's like until you actually experience it), would you ever be a surrogate?

Me:  I thought before I was pregnant that I would want to be a surrogate after I was done having kids and it was either for someone who I was really close to that couldn't have kids or for a lot of money.  As of right now, I feel the same way and I haven't had the best of pregnancies, plus I still haven't been through the worst of 3rd tri and labor and delivery so my mind may change.

Re: Surrogacy

  • Pregnancy sucks. That said, I would do it for someone very close (like my sister).

  • Hey we share a due date!!

I don't think I could do it ... I am so attached to the little one growing inside me I just don't know how I could give him/her away ... even if it was someone elses embryo.

This.  I don't think I could do it for the money unless someone else was supplying the genetic material.  I definately couldn't donate an egg to the process or anything like that.  Even then, it'd have to be A LOT of money lol.

  • Honestly, I would totally do it- I love being pg, despite all of the "quirks." But DH would think the idea would be strange, plus I've had two losses so I doubt I'd even qualify to be a surrogate. If my sister needed one I'd do it in a heartbeat and DH would just have to deal.

  • I'd do it.  even though it would be really hard b/c you bond so much with the baby while she/he in your belly.  But I'd do it!
  • I would do it for someone close to me. Without a question. I've seen to many parents who don't deserve it become parents that it breaks my heart to see those who would make amazing parents, not be able to have kids.
  • I don't THINK i could do it...but that is one of those things that you never know until the situation arises. I mean, I guess if I went into a pregnancy knowing the child wasn't mine....but still, the attachment i feel to my child is amazing, i just don't know if I would be capable of handing him over at the end of this time we've spent together.
  • I think I would do it for someone really close, or for a ton of money. I haven't had it too bad as of yet with this pregnancy, but I also have not experienced the delivery part yet. I will have to get back to you on this one after the delivery. I may have changed my mind. I hope not though. I do plan on having another child of my own too.

  • After DS was born I thought I'd love to (I had a DREAM pg, couldn't ask for it to be any better).  Now that I'm having twins, I wouldn't (unless it was someone I was SUPER close to).
  • I'd do it for my sister.  That's about it.
  • If I was younger I would, but this pregnancy is kicking my body's ass
  • I would love to do it, but with my track record of miscarriages and pregnancy complications I don't think I would be a very good candidate.  I also can't support really big babies or multiples so that pretty much limits me.

  • I was actually talking to my husband about this a couple of weeks ago.  We are friends with another couple that can't have kids naturally (she is type 1 diabetic) and it got me thinking about surrogacy.  I've had a very decent pregnancy and have enjoyed it quite a bit.. So I honestly think (so far at least..) that I could probably do it and would do it if a close friend asked me to :)  However, it would have to be someone elses egg/sperm.. I don't want to pass on my genetics to some poor unsuspecting baby ;)

  • No way, but I can see how someone would do it for a sister. I don't have a sister, so it would never happen for me.?

    ?

  • I would do it! I have loved being pregnant and after going through 4+ years of fertility treatments and never knowing if I would have a biological child, I would do it for someone else in a heartbeat. Not sure if Dh would be on board though...

  • I would do it for my sister, but I don't know if I could do it for anyone else. It would probably depend on the situation and my relationship with the couple.

  • At this stage in the pregnancy (I haven't been through the hard part yet), I'm sad that I won't be pregnant again, as this is our second and final child.  If any of our wannabe daddy friends ask me to be a surrogate, I will definitely say yes.  Since most of them know it took me 2.5 years to get here, though, I'm not sure I'm the best surrogate choice in all the world...
