For breastfeeding, I found that the breastfriend offered much better support than a boppy- as a a matter of fact, I couldn't breastfeed comfortably without it for the first 2 months or so. I returned my boppy after realizing how much I like the breastfriend. However, you can use the boppy for setting baby down in, as a tummy time pillow, and as support when they start sitting up, so I regretted returning it once I realized I could use it for other things.....maybe the new 2 sided boppy would be a good solution?
1) It has a buckle. I can buckle it on me first, then pick up DS and put him on it. When you have a big baby (DS is 16 lbs), I need both hands to pick him up. Hard to do it with the boppy.
2) It has a firm and flat surface, so DS isn't constantly rolling off the sides. When he was a newborn, he'd fall asleep after nursing and I just let him nap on it.

There's a new boppy that's supposed to combine the best of both - hard side, soft side, and a strap. I read a blog that was raving about it.
This looks like it'd be great! I'll probably get this next time!
I have both. MBF is very comfortable and if DD falls asleep nursing she's nice and sturdy on it without me having to hold her up. We keep this one downstairs. I do think it's kind of bulky and takes some thought to put on. It's easy to put on, for sure, but I find that I have always nursed without it more than with because it was easier for me to just sit cross legged and pull my boob out, resting DD on my leg.
The Boppy is good too. Not as comfortable (in my opinion) as the MBF, but it's super easy and I've used it for more than nursing. In fact, I like it best for supporting my arm while I'm holding DD as she's falling asleep and I'm on the computer (which is what I'm doing now!). I've also propped her in it and used it to wrap around her lower body to help her sleep.
I think you'll be fine with whatever one. Maybe register for both and see what you get? I had the Boppy given to me and I'm borrowing the MBF, I wouldn't have bought both.
Re: My breastfriend vs boppy?
I did the Mombo instead. It is two sided with 1 side being more study (for BFing) and the other side softer (like Boppy) Plus, it vibrates

I really like MBF for 2 reasons:
1) It has a buckle. I can buckle it on me first, then pick up DS and put him on it. When you have a big baby (DS is 16 lbs), I need both hands to pick him up. Hard to do it with the boppy.
2) It has a firm and flat surface, so DS isn't constantly rolling off the sides. When he was a newborn, he'd fall asleep after nursing and I just let him nap on it.

Boppy was awful for BF. It was constantly caving in the middle and Lo would fall in the space between my body and the boppy.
Born free has a new pillow called the bliss which combines the boppy and my brest friend as well
