How Long for your Belly to Go Down

Hi All --

I'm  1 week, 2 days post op after my first delivery/c-section. One thing I didn't realize with the delivery was how large my belly would still be after my son was born. I'm normally very petite, so my current belly still looks about 5 months pregnant.

I was just curious what your experiences have been with the amount of time it took for your belly to shrink down. I definitely realize I'm still very early post-op, but am just curious.

Thanks!

Kate

About 6 weeks. That's how long it takes for your uterus to shrink back down.

I would say my belly looked pretty normal again (but not necessarily pre-pregnancy shape) about 3 weeks after. The hard part is getting back into jeans again. I was able to find a pair of jeans that fit and wasn't uncomfortable around the incision. About 3 months after, I was able to wear my pre-pregnancy jeans with absolutely no discomfort around my incision. But, every heals differently! Just don't worry too much about it, and focus on your baby.

a couple of weeks.  I look at some pictures and I am shocked at how big I was still afterwards.  I had lost majority of my weight in the hospital but wow does it take a while.  Give yourself some time :)

I'm the odd one out - but it took about 12 weeks for me to not look pregnant anymore. I still have a pooch though. This may be because my stomach muscles didn't go back together as fast as most people's do.

I am normally a size 6ish but my stomach is my "problem area" even w/out pregnancy. I have looked pregnant for months after each baby, c-section of not. I definitely still look pregnant now, two months out, even though I have lost a lot of weight. :(

A good six weeks at least if not more.  I was very swollen all over which didn't help.  My belly has never been my problem area, so it was doubly disappointing.

Get one of those belly binder things! It really helped me and my tummy shrunk down really fast it was so much smaller at even a week to 10 days. They have me one at the hospital and I also bought one from the baby baboosh website.

Since I was induced four days before I finally had a c-section, I was way puffy from all the pushed fluids & came home looking bigger & more pregnant than when I was admitted!  I'm still swollen & puffy through my abdomen, but the rest of me has shrunk down pretty quickly (yay, breastfeeding!)  I don't look pregnant, really, just fluffier than before.  Include plenty of water & fiber in your diet to help keep any additional GI bloat down & to help flush out all the extra fluid that builds up during pregnancy & surgery.

Around 3 weeks I noticed my stomach had gone down a little, but it was still large. It wasn't til around 3-4 months afterwards when I had been exercising for a while that I noticed a big difference and could wear my normal clothes.
