September 2013 Moms

Finally decided how we will tell my parents

It has been so hard to wait to tell our families but this being our first, we REALLY wanted to tell them in person and didnt want to do it with any reservations.  So after our first appt we booked our flight for when I will be 13W2D along.  Now that were just 2.5 weeks away, we've been thinking about how (this is their 13th grand child) and though its a little risky, we think we got it!  We actually conceived while staying at their house over Christmas (Christmas Eve to be exact...) but I couldn't help it - I knew I was ovulating!

So anyway, We will be surprising my mom by showing up to her 60th birthday party (its only my brothers and sisters and their families) while they are eating lunch.  For a gift we are going to give my mom a new pair of sheets with a card that says from me, my husband, and bambini.

 Too much?

  • I personally think that is a bit over the top. I know my parents would be taken aback by an announcement like that, so maybe it depends on your parents' sense of humor. What about doing something like a birthday card to grandma? That could be fun since you're surprising her at her birthday lunch.

  • Lol! Not too much at all. I think it's hilarious. I'm guessing that your family has quite the sense of humour.

We found out we are expecting on Christmas morning. We actually wrapped up thx positive test, addressed it to my mom from Santa, and after all the other gifts were opened we gave it to her. We caught the moment on video. It was awesome!!! Some would think its gross because it had my pee on it, but with the cap on I figured it was fine. She was so thrilled!!!! Besg Xmas gift ever as far as she was concerned.

We also found out Xmas day! We told our families they have to wait 9 months for their other Xmas gift to arrive... Took them a second and then they were estatic! It's first grandchild for both our parents.

  • That's so cute!!! I love that idea. My mom has been so excited for us to have kids, and my bro is expecting for the first time in may and my DH and I in sept so she will be grandma twice in one year. She's a knitting machine!!!

    I kinda agree with this.

  • If your parents would get it and and if they have a great sense of humor, then it could work. I personally, wouldn't do that.

  • if your family likes things like that, go for it... my Mom is of the "don't talk about sex" camp.

  • I've had friends make the announcements at other peoples parties and Its always been really akward for the guests because everyone feels forced to divert their attention to the parents to be. I personally would never do that but I know this is your mom and you'll be around family so it's a little different. Good luck and I hope it goes down exactly as you'd like!
  • I personally would be weirded out by that, but if they have a sense of humor and you have that close of a relationship then go for it.

  • Since you're asking for an opinion, I think that's too weird. Some info should remain personal. I don't need anyone knowing the details of our baby's conception.

I have to agree. We conceived our son on a month long vacation and pretty much everyone realized the timing and always asked which country we were in. Tmi if you ask me.

  • This sound like one of those ideas that's funny in your head and horribly tacky to actually play out. And if your parents don't get the joke and you have to explain it to them??? That just seems like setting yourself up for an announcement fail to me.

Yeahhhh...the new sheets seem...icky? I love the idea of surprising her for her birthday, I just think the sheets gift is kind of weird, sorry.

  • I guess it depends on your family.  If I did that at a family lunch there would be a fair amount lunch losing.

Surprising her and giving her a gift that tells her you are pregnant is a nice idea, but pointing out that you had sex at her house is a judgment call that really just depends on your family.
