Baby carriers

Yesterday my husband and I took a class called A Day About Baby.  It was amazing (we live north of Seattle, and it was through Evergreen Hospital).  In the class they talked about wearing baby, and baby wraps.  The two that looked most appealing to us were the Moby Wrap and/or the Pikkolo.  Does anyone out there have either, or have another one that they just love?

Re: Baby carriers

  • Baby k'tan is great. Like the moby, but without all the wrapping.
If somebody thinks they're a hedgehog, presumably you just give 'em a mirror and a few pictures of hedgehogs and tell them to sort it out for themselves.-Douglas Adams

  • I have one Moby and I registered for another.  I didn't try any other brand or kind of carrier because I loved the Moby.  I like the way the weight was evenly distributed.  It was easy to use too, once you get the hang of it.  I was told by another bumpie that they have tutorials on youtube as to how to make your own if you don't want to spend the money.

  • We're going with the K'tan.  I watched a video on you tube called "Baby K'tan vs the wrap" which helped me to make my decision.  Sorry I can't put a link here using my tablet.

  • I got a Moby Wrap as a baby gift as it was highly recommended by a friend of mine, but I'm a FTM so I haven't used it yet!  I also bought an Ergo baby carrier for times when maybe I want a little more security (hiking, etc).

And just now I bought this cool shirt that I'm pretty excited about -- https://nuroobaby.com/

  • Last time we used a Bjorn and the Moby. I wasn't a fan of the Moby, and apparently the Bjorn isn't great for their hips when they're forward facing, so this time we're going to try an Ergo.

  • I had a Moby with DD2, but I thought it took a long time to learn to use it, and DD2 never really liked it. She was a summer baby, and the Moby was way too warm until fall.

We really liked the Ergo once she got older. It was much easier to use and faster to put on.

I just bought a ring sling to use with DD3. I've heard they're easier to nurse in than other carriers, and I think I'll really like the hip carry when she gets older. I think I need to start practicing with it so I'm prepared before baby comes.

We have a "Baby Wearing Class" next week through our doula, and I just received my Moby Baby Wrap in the mail on Friday :) I ordered the Organic Cotton - Celery Green Moby Baby wrap from Amazon.ca, got free shipping, and got the organic cotton wrap on sale for the same price as the regular cotton wrap.

I have tried it out watching youtube tutorials and using a baby-sized teddy bear, and so far it looks and feels awesome! There are so many different techniques, I'm so excited to try on our actual baby! :)

  • I deal with bad back pain, so I have the Ergo and can wear the baby front and back with no issues at all.   Will use it again with this kiddo and use the infant insert in the beginning.
  • I just bought a snuggybaby ring sling that I'm super excited about! I'll be using that to nurse in and while baby is small, then I also bought a Beco! and now I'm wanting a snuggybaby mei tai but trying to hold off and see if I actually baby wear enough to justify 3 :)

  • With DS I had a Moby, pocket sling and a Bjorn. I never used them much. The Moby felt overwhelming because I'm petite and my short arms had trouble wrapping all the material. I was nervous using the pocket sling thinking he would fall out and Bjorn hurt my back the few times I used it. I also was very nervous and didn't give them all that much of a chance. This time I have purchased a mesh ring sling to wear in the water since I know we will be at the beach a lot (older DS is now almost 5 and is a little fish), a Becco Butterfly and a Baby K'tan which will take care of the Moby overwhelmed by fabric issue. I have a friend who is short like me who had the Becco and Baby K'tan and loved both so I'm hopeful that those will work better for me.
