feeding change?

Is it possible or normal for LO to decrease her feeding amount? She's 3 and a half weeks old and has been eating 3oz for about a week and a half, and occasionally 4oz. Last night and this morning she doesn't want more than 2oz. Could she have been going through a growth spurt and it's over now? Or could she be sick? She's not acting sick or unhappy.

I posted on the BF and Babies boards about a poop change too. Just trying to get to the bottom of it.

Re: feeding change?

  • Sometimes they are just less hungry. DD only ate two ounces last night and normal eats 3-4 but she was just tired.

  • She was probably going through a growth spurt. As long as you're getting enough wet diapers and some poop you're fine.
  • I really wouldn't worry about it unless she's exhibiting concerning signs.  Sometimes babies are hungrier than others for whatever reason.  DD recently seems to have upped her intake to 3-4 ounces, but yesterday she was in a snacky mood and was back to eating ~2 oz at a time.  Babies are just tiny people, just like us they may want to eat more some days than others or some meals than others.  It's not something I would be concerned with.
