Moms with Ergo's

I just posted this on my Janurary 2013 board, but would like more imput as well.

So I am going to buy an ergo today. I am planning on using it for the first time tomrrow when I need to bring my older DS to a birthday party. My baby is now 5 weeks old and weighs 11.10lbs as of thursday. Should I also buy the infant insert or do you think he is big enough to just go in the ERgo without it?

Re: Moms with Ergo's

  • You could probably skip it and roll up a receiving blanket, but my answer is not from experience, just from reading the boards.

  • I personally love the infant insert, especially in this cold weather. My son is 7 weeks, 11 lbs and he loves to snuggle in it. If someone wants to hold him, the insert is easy to just take out and he doesn't even notice the move!
  • I loved the insert (LO was born under 8lbs and we used it constantly), but if your LO is already over 11lbs, I probably wouldn't waste my money.  I started just using a rolled up blanket under her butt/feet to keep her up a little higher when she was about 12lbs.  You can definitely make it work without the insert and spend the $30 on something else!
  • I agree- love the insert!

  • We use ours without the insert- I was going to buy it but the sales clerk said a rolled up receiving blanket would work just as well- and we've never had a problem with that method- LO loves her carrier and the blanket keeps her up high enough where she isn't covered with fabric

  • I would forego the infant insert. We have it from our DD, and absolutely hated it. It was so thick that she would overheat in it all the time. Not to mention, it wasn't used nearly enough before she technically didn't need it any more. It was a waste of money for me.

But I love the Ergo!!!! I am still using it for my daughter who is 19 months now.

  • You don't need it.

  • As pps said, you can skip the insert and use a rolled up receiving blanket instead. I personally really like the insert - LO loves to be snuggled up in it, but a few friends and I have one that we all share (we pass it on to the friend whose baby is due next after our baby outgrows it), do you know anyone who has it that you can borrow from?

  • I've got a 13-pounder right now, and we still use the insert, both to prop up his head better and to keep him warm in this cold weather.  I also use the insert to carry him sideways in the Ergo like a sling when we're in the house.
