Night feeding

So we have boy girl twins with weight discrepancy. Baby boy N is now between nine and a half and ten lbs at 7 wks and baby girl S who had iugr is probably between 7 and a half and 8.

Question is N is now able to sleep a little longer after breastfeeding followed by a couple ounces supplement of formula. He probably could have gone 5 or five and a half hours the other night but we had to keep waking him because S was waking every 3 to 3 and a half still. Sometimes she can stretch to 4, but we are still waking him and its counterintuitive bc he barely eats. He is so sleepy and possibly still full. So then by the time I get him back down and settled, poor thing wakes up and hour later or hour and a half really hungry. Then, cue S waking up because he's crying, plus then I have the light on to burp and change him. What do other MoMs do with twins who have 2lbs weight difference? Is there something we can be doing better? Sleeping in separate rooms? Please help! Thank you....

Re: Night feeding

  • By the way should have mentioned S is taking between 4 to 4 and a half ounces per feeding.

  • I don't really know as my sleepy guy didn't wake up later so I finally just started leaving him. He will occasionally sleep through the entire night, not always though. My wakey guy is still up every 36 hours. Oh but my advice would be to get a good night light so you don't have to turn on the light. It will eventually make it easier to resettle them after waking.

  • My boy/ girl twins have a  3 lb difference. I have always done "one up, both up."  I know one of them could go longer, when they were younger, but I didn't want to have to feed in the middle of the night more than I had to. I never had the issue of the less hungry one waking up an hour later though....sorry! We put them down around 7:30pm now and they wake up around 4:30-5:30am for a feeding then go back down till 8am. It will get better!!!  Ours are in the same room and just sleep through each others whines and cry....most of the time. My advice would be to keep them on the same feeding schedule. If One of them wakes up an hour after a feeding, try a paci first. Try and keep them on the same feeding schedule as long as you can. It has definitely worked for us. Good Luck.
