my shower curtain hurting my baby?!?!?!

Why have I never heard of the dangers of PVC??

I was just reading a pregnancy magazine where they said to make sure that you do not shower in a shower with a pvc shower curtain..

I just bought one! And then set it up which took a while and have showered in it twice. It said that the smell I love so much was extremely harmful to my growing baby :(

Stupid stupid stupid. :(

The one thing I own that I haven't googled.

  • It's probably not as bad as the article led you to believe. I guess buy a water resistant fabric one. I just got one from target. Threw the packaging away. Hopefully no PVC since its supposed to be fabric.

LOL. Yes, a little bit. I too, love the smell of PVC however :) We have fabric curtain liners simply because I love that I can wash them when needed :) Worth the investment!

  • I wouldn't worry about it.  I am not replacing mine.  And I had a similar one with my ds and he's fine.  If the ob doesn't specifically say to watch out for it, I would not go looking for stress on the web.

Yes :) I will definitely be getting a fabric one. I have one in my other bathroom I just liked that it was see through. I've seen to many horror movies and liked that I could see the whole room while showering lol.

  • I have been showering with a PVC shower curtain every day. And I bet the vast majority of mothers out there have done the same. Sometimes this shhiiit gets out of hand...

  • I've heard that plastic shower curtains can contain an additive that is a suspected carcinogen, but I haven't read any specific warnings for pregnant women. I'm sure that the risk is so small that it isn't worthy of your stress, especially if you only used it twice. I'm in my third pregnancy and I'm still reading about things that should be avoided during pregnancies... It's a constant learning process. No worries!

  • least we forget about all the other "dangers" we subject ourselves to daily without thinking of it and yet, babies still come out healthy - cell phone radiation, pollution, driving a car, exhaust....it goes on and on.. you'll be fine. relax.
