Silly question about hot showers.

Hi Ladies,

Are hot showers safe? I love a long hot shower, but I'm not sure how safe they are. I think the reason why I like the water so warm is because I get chilled while showering. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

    It's not so silly, I'm the same way.  I make sure to try to keep my bump out of the shower as much as possible and kept them a little on the cooler side until I was about 20 wks or so (can't quite remember)

    Testing - Me ok, gluten issue? DH - borderline count, low motility
    4/28/11 IUI#1 = BFP!(5/25), EDD 2/2/12 - m/c 5w3d
    7/3, 7/31, 9/25 - IUI#2-4=BFN
    IVF#1 - 1 blast = BFP!! (12/30), EDD 9/9/12, confirmed c/p 4w2d
    FET#1 3/2/12 - 2 blasts =BFP!! EDD 11/18/12, us#1 = twins! Confirmed m/c 5w6d
    4/20-surprise BFP and another c/p 4w2d
    FET#2 7/16/12 - 2 blasts = BFN
    FET#3 8/20/12 - 1 blast - BFP!! Beta #1-2=177, 354
    1st u/s 5w6d, one beautiful little HB :), 2nd u/s 146bpm

    IVF#2 8/19/15 - cancelled due to cysts
    IVF#2 take two 10/2015 - 5 blasts frozen
    FET#4 12/11/2015 - BFN - 4 blasts remaining
    FET#5 2/18/16 - BFP!!!  Beta1-3, 126, 250, 745!!

    I love my hot showers too, but because I'm so paranoid, I've turned down the heat and now keep it on the cooler side. I'm just too worried about everything now.

    I think they are probably safe.  I love them too.  Baths are potentially more worrisome because your body is totally submerged in the hotter water and can raise your body temp.  I don't think standing in the shower spray is as effective at raising your body temp.  Can't hurt to play it safe, but I've never been told to worry about showers.

    I tried turning the hot water down at first, but it was so unsatisfying, I ended up turning it back up, lol. I did make sure the water didn't scald my skin (yeah, I like showers REALLY hot) and that I didn't stay there too long. I also tried to not let the water stay directly on my belly too long. I've read numerous things about taking a warm shower to help sore muscles during pregnancy and my OB has never mentioned it, so I stopped worrying. And my 20 week baby is perfectly healthy.

    I think a more serious concern about a hot shower would be getting faint from low blood pressure due to the heat. Just cool it down if you start feeling dizzy! I love a hot shower!
