Being given a gift because you found out the sex of your baby is ridiculous.
I did see a cute idea (on Pinterest, I think) where you have the ultrasound tech write the sex on a piece of paper & seal it in an envelope. Then take it to a cake shop, give it to the baker, and have them put pink or blue on the inside of the cake. Then you would find out the sex at the same time as your loved ones when you cut into the cake. I'm not sure if I would have enough self control not to look at it beforehand though .
I agree with all of this. I got invited to a gender reveal party once but didn't go because it did feel kind of AW-ish. I like the Pinterest idea though. It would be kind of neat to do with DH and our Moms.
People who are going to care are going to care without a cake or balloons or fortune cookies or games or drinks in cocktail shakers.
Yeah, I don't care if it's an UO or not, Gender/Sex reveals are stupid. You are having a party for your childs sex organs. You're getting everyone together and building suspense/playing games about your childs reproductive organs. Sorry, it's a weird idea at best and a giant screaming plea for attention at worst. I can see doing something for an older sibling/siblings, but 100 people? Um...no.
Little Man (4 years old---holy cow) He's the single greatest thing I've done in my life and reminds me daily of how fun (and funny) life can be. He's turned out pretty swell for having such a heartless and evil mother.
I don't see a problem with sharing the news in a fun or creative way with close friends and family. I do think a huge blow out and expecting gifts is tacky though. I personally would never be able to wait for the party but I think it's a cute idea.
And OP I agree your cousin was being biitchy. To say no one cares is ridiculous, I'm sure there were plenty of people there who cared. Sounds to me that someone doesn't like it when they aren't the center of attention.
