Anyone here solved the 30-min nap curse?

DS used to be a great napper - 1-hr, 2-hr, even up to 3-hr naps, as recently as last week.

Now I can't get him past the 30-min mark for most naps.  I do the same routine as I always did...

Not only DS wakes up screaming and crying at the 30-min mark, he also immediately starts yawning and rubbing his eyes.  So basically, I put him down for naps (can take up to 30 mins), he sleeps for 30 mins, nurses, burps, diaper change, and the whole process starts again.  He is miserable all day because he's still tired.

Anyone has a solution to this?  I want my happy baby back.

  • Same exact situation here. One thing that I have noticed is that sometimes LO wakes up after 30 minutes and he's in a good mood. At those times, I just get him up. Other times, at the 30 min mark he'll start crying HARD. Those times, I can usually pick him up and rock him back to sleep for at least another 30 minutes.

But I have no other advice...I can't wait til this "phase" is over!

  • I usually rock him back to sleep. If it is his 2nd bad nap of the day I will let him sleep in my arms.

  • Unless someone is actively holding him, my LO has rarely napped past the 20minute mark.  I don't know why he can do it at daycare though...!

  • my man has never ever been much of a napper. Every so often he'll do an epic 3 hour nap (like once every 2 weeks) but 30 min or so has been the norm since birth. BOO! He's not 4 months yet though so maybe I am in store for this later?

(that said, he's been kicking baby butt at sleeping through the night, so I will take it).

I supervise her tummy sleeping. She sleeps sooooo much longer.

This! Plus LO naps much better following a night of good sleep. Have you tried moving up bedtime?

  • It's likely his attempt to spend time with you. Since you've been at work and away from him, try to see it as a compliment: he missed you.

I'm in the same situation. E has decided he is going to refuse naps when I get home from work. This results in him being awake for five or six hours. It is such a fight to even get him to fall asleep. We have resulted to riding around in the car to get him to nap. Nothing else
works! I'm so tired of this!

We've just started to do this. I made the mistake the first time of trying to roll DS2 onto his back after he was sleeping and he got so pissed!! So he naps at least once on his tummy if he needs a good nap in, but I have yet to let him sleep at night on his tummy (he's still in his RNP). We did, however, order the Angelcare baby monitor so he can start sleeping on his tummy and I can have peace of mind.

Back to the napping, if I really need a nap, I let DS2 sleep on my chest while I catch some zzz's.
