Just bought some of that squeeze pouch puree stuff to try and one of them has a fruit veggie mix that includes Kiwi. LO has not had kiwi yet. Some things I've read say yes its ok for babies after 6 months and some things say not before 12 months bc its considered a citrus fruit. I'm waiting for the nurse from the ped office to call me back but in the mean time, does any body know if its okay?
Re: kiwis: yes or no?
I believe kiwi is technically a berry.
It's interesting, I have some Earth's Best babyfood pouches labeled for six months and older and they have a flavor that includes oranges. Never really thought about it and it didn't seem to bother him!
here's how I look at it....the companies wouldn't make foods that would be harmful for our children, and package them as baby food unless they were alright to have. We have been told that strawberries are not good for them to have, yet how many foods out there have strawberries in them? EXACTLY!!! Now sure, citrus we are supposed to wait on, but you don't see mandarin orange baby food either do you?
So, my 2 cents, give it to your LO. If it wasn't deemed safe to be sold, it wouldn' tbe on the shelves. I make all of my son's food, and I certainly have not shyed away from from berries, pineapple, meats or any kind of veggie. All you can do is try.
This is how I see it too. If they shouldn't have it, it wouldn't be in baby food. The only time I hold it back is if there is family history of allergies or sensitivity to those foods.
When he was 6 mos. old my son lunged for a piece of sliced kiwi my husband was eating, and baby ended up loving it - we offer it every once in a while. It's never seemed to bother him.
