I am feeding DD once per night around 3am. I'm fine with it until she's 6 months and I hear from the pedi that she absolutely doesn't need this feeding. My concern is, however, when she wakes at say 11 or 12 (as she did last night) and screams, I do the progressive checks but do not feed her. But, at 3am when she cries, I do feed her. Is this confusing her do you think?
Re: Another sleep question (related to night feeding)
My guy has been STTN since he was 2 months. We have our occasional hiccups along the way, but I agree that your baby can sleep through the night at 6 months, as long as their getting enough nutrition during the day. That being said, you know your baby best. Just this weekend, he was crying a little after 3:30 (not the norm). I did our old routine when this happened- wait 5-10 minutes, go in quietly and soothe him in his crib (lightly pat his back, and I he does get a paci for this), once he calms down, leave the room. If he starts back up, wait 5-10 minutes, then repeat. Did this 3 times before getting him up to feed him, so I was feeding him at 4, when he usually goes until around 6:30.
This worked for us when we started to get him past his night feedings because it allowed me to give him the opportunity to learn to soothe himself, but also let him know I was there for him when I checked in on him. It also helps push back the feedings until he's STTN.
