Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

ever gone to a "sip and see"?

do you normally take a gift with you?

here is the back story:  Someone that I use to work with (it's been over 2 years since we worked together) recently had her 2nd baby.  We casually keep in contact, mostly via small random comments on facebook.  At this point in my life I wouldn't label her as a friend, kwim?

Anways I ran into her back in May and she says, "I want to have a baby shower for #2 but I can't get anyone in my family to organize it.  I was also thinking people could just bring presents after the baby is born and I will have a sip and see at the house...wich would you rather come to?"   I was kinda taken aback by the whole conversation and said, I guess I would rather go to a sip and see that way it's not all about presents.  I didn't think she would invite ME to either!  we literally have not seen each other in almost 2 years!

Well I got an invite to the sip and see which is this weekend.  I know Andrea well enough to know that this really is all about gifts and it makes me really irritated!    Both of her kids are girls so no need to buy different gender items, and they are exactly 2 years apart so I doubt she really needs clothes.

What really bugs me is she didn't even come see DS when he was born and has only seen him one time ever...because we happen to run into her at the State Fair!

Do I just suck it up and buy a gift or go empty handed?  fwiw it's an openhouse type thing so it's not like she would be opening gifts infront of people. right?

Sorry so long, wwyd?

  • I wouldn't go - tell her you already have an event to go to that day. Personally, I wouldn't send a gift either.

  • Personally, I would say I was busy and wouldn't attend at all. But if you do decide to go, just bring a card. At least that way you aren't totally empty handed!

  • I wouldn't go! Plain and simple.

  • If you two aren't that close and you don't even like her that much I would not go.

  • I have never heard of a sip and see. What is it?
  • I agree with the pps, if it bothers you that much, why would you even go? If you do go however, I would bring something small, even if it's just a couple books or rattles or something.
  • A sip and see is where you go see the baby and mom after delivery.  Baby can be anywhere from days to a few (no more than 3) months old.  I had one for my DD on my mom's side,  it was alot of fun b/c I wasn't in the spot light as much as I was at the In law-baby shower.  Also I had alot of older relatives show up that I don't see to often, that brought homeade gifts (blankets-espically).  I had a Great-Aunt in Flordia send a beautiful outfit, which was really cool too.  Finally, I think that it helped more people show up b/c of a new baby then being a shower.

For the orginal poster send your regrets and dont go,  send a card if u like.  It sounds like you really know her all to well and know she is about the gifts. She sounds like an ex-coworker to me.

Ah, okay. Cool. Sounds like fun! I agree, OP, send regrets and a GC.
