My dd is 3 months. I was just wondering if any of your babies skipped the dreaded 4 month wakeful?
For those that had to go through it, please describe what your LO did and how long it lasted.
TIA
The week our LO turned four months, we had three nights in a row that she woke up twice. She usually STTN with an occasional night where she wakes up once. If that was our wakeful period, it was a breeze compared to others.
Personally, I think it had to do with us changing formula and putting her on food at the same time (and teething on top of that)... bad mistake on my part. She went back to STTN when I quit giving her the food and let her adjust to the formula first. I think she just had too much going on. Her stomach was causing her problems.
I know several people who didn't have babies go through the wakeful period, so you may be one of the lucky ones, too! GL!

^^ wss were really lucky...so far! She has been waking up occasionally to eat but nothing like others. She is testing her voice and a lot more whiny. She wants to change her view more often, so she wants people to walk around with her so that she can see different things....
I have quite a few books on sleeping and non of them mention this. Aakeful period everyone talks about. Also I have a few friends with older babies and they say they never heard of this.
I don't remember it with my son. He is now 6yo. But he was a horrible sleeper and I swear he didn't start sleeping good until 1yo. But with my dd sttn and maybe needing 1 feeding then I will definitely notice a change next month if it happens. I'm crossin my fingers that it doesn't.
My LO didn't have the 4 month wakeful period. At 4 months we took away his pacifier and he has slept pretty well since then. (He used to wake up and wasn't able to put himself back to sleep without a paci.) Now he will randomly wake up at night but as long as it is not time to eat or he doesn't need his diaper changed he can put himself back to sleep.

I don't know if there is a "4 month wakeful" or as PP mentioned there is just a time when multiple factors affect the baby's sleeping habits. At about three and a half months, my son started waking up multiple times a night even though he had been sleeping through the night for about a month previously. However, this was over the holidays and we had just traveled to see family for a week. He didn't get to nap on his normal "schedule", didn't have his swing to nap in during the day, was held much more than usual, and was just starting to be more alert/ "wakeful". It only lasted about a week and a half or two weeks but it felt like forever! Then, he started sleeping in longer increments, gradually back to all night (most of the time). HTH!
My pedi it as a real thing, and I definitely think it's real! I do agree with PPs that there are a lot of changes going on that disrupt sleep--I think it's just that there seems to be a huge shift around 4 months, which I believe is the point when a lot of babies have trouble putting themselevs back to sleep after a sleep cycle ends--this can cause the wakeups every hour or the shortened naps (which we're dealing with). Also, around 4 months old, babies often become distracted while eating, which decreases the amount of food they take in during the day, and so they need to make up for it at night--hence more night wakings. Both of the above things hopefully work themselves out over time.
