My BIL and his wife are nuts about people being around his kids when they've been sick - for example, we weren't allowed to see his LO until she was 12 weeks old because DH had a cold a month before she was born.
With anyone else's LOs - totally another story. We were all at my SIL's this weekend (his sister), and only after his 3YO daughter had diarrhea running down her leg does he tell us that she's had a fever on and off and been vomiting since Thursday, plus this is the fifth instance of diarrhea that day!
Sure enough, about 24 hours after being exposed, DS developed a fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. Thankfully he's an easy-going kid, and is handling it as well as I could hope.
As if DS being miserable weren't enough, I teach in a school that's fighting not to be closed (our city is closing 75-100 schools at the end of the year due to budget shortfalls), and 2 weeks before the huge state test that will contribute to our eligibility to stay open I have to take at least 2 days off to stay home with my poor baby, since he won't be able to go back to DC until he's symptom-free for 24 hours. DH would stay home with him, but he's new at his job and hasn't accrued sick time yet.
Argh! Really needed to vent - thanks for letting me be snarky!
Re: hypocrite BIL - so irritated!
hope your LO feels better soon.. on the bright side your kid will build a great immune system with IL's like that.
That's really awful. I hope your LO gets better soon.
Also, good luck with the proficiency tests! How stressful.
Oy, I have heard about the closings in Chi-town. That's rough. I hope things go well at your school. IL has been having it rough lately but I sure do miss it.
I hope your LO feels better soon. Being sick stinks
Thanks everyone! DS is feeling better - no more vomiting, just a low (100-101) fever. It's nice being able to stay home with him too - just wish he was a little less fussy.
