Baby Names

Siblings both starting with same letter?

DD name is Emelina Grace W. last name is one syllable.

The only girl name we seem to agree on is Eleanor.   I'm not sure I want two E names.  We also have no ideas for a middle name.  Girl name is just so hard for us.

For a boy we are thinking Kellen Benjamin. Does the N at the end of both names sound odd?

  • Siblings both starting with the same letter is not ideal for me, but it's not a deal breaker either as long as they are not matchy matchy.  I think it's fine.

    Eleanor Rose

    Eleanor Katherine

    Eleanor Claire

    Eleanor Margaret

    Eleanor Lydia

The double -n endings do not bother me on your boy name.  I think it's because there are 3 syllables in the mn that break it up.  For example, Kellen Benjamin sounds better to me than Kellan Landon or Kellan Preston.

  • I agree, we are having a horrible time trying to come up with a girl name. I like Eleanor, and think its just fine for siblings to have the same letter for there first name. I am from a family of 8... 4 boys- starting with J. 4 girls-starting with M. So im used to it.

  • 2 kids with the same initial is no biggie.... four or more I would side-eye.

I am a Jenn and Josh sibset, I know an Eric and Ella....

Steve and Stephanie is probably the only sibset like that that made me do a double take, but I think that's a lot diff than just initials.

none of these pairs were matchy matchy on purpose btw.

  • two children with the same initial wouldn't bother me at all. My aunt has four children, and her oldest two are both "A" and her youngest two are both "T" so no, it's not really a big deal to me. I wouldn't think anything of it!  Oh and I love Eleanor! It's my grandmother's name and I'm considering using it as a middle name if I have a girl.

I agree with this, although side-eye is not the right word. I would probably just be annoyed by more than two children with the same initial.

  • I think the same letter is fine as long as they aren't too matchy, which they aren't.

  • I like Eleanor Rose and I think Kellen Benjamin sounds fine!

  • I think its totally fine! We really like Leighton for a girl, we'd have Landon and Leighton. They're not matchy so I wasn't bothered. If they're like Keri and Kori (I knew sisters named this) then I'd be a little more hesitant.

  • I think it's ok to do too. Our DD1 is Emily Catherine and right now our two top names are either Anna Cecelia or Elizabeth Cecelia. We didn't think about the first letter, just names we like. I don't think people really think about it unless you have three or more kids with the same letter. And I really like the name Eleanor, but DH nixed it.

  • I don't think siblings' names have to start with different letters.  All three of us in my family had J names, and it was fine.  I would just be worried that Emelina and Eleanor would end up being Emmy and Ellie, and that's just not okay!

Kellen Benjamin - the ending N's don't bother me.  Perhaps because Benjamin is so long.

  • If its a coincidence, fine; but its not something I'd personally go out of my way to do.

  • I am in the same boat with the two names ending in "n" One of the names I liked was Quinn but we are 99.9% sure we will be using Steven as a middle name. My FIL's FN. I have 3 other names that end with "n" on our list and I think it sounds silly with Steven. Our other MN's would be Ryan & Paul... H & H Gpa's names.

BUT like I have said to many before, I don't know anyone who really goes around calling any of us by FN & MN on a daily basis.... so if it doesn't flow great so be it & if you love the names, it's our kid so who cares :-)

  • Personally I wouldn't do 2 kids with the same letter - because if you only have 2 it's a little cutesy.  And if you have more than 2, I think you're already locked in so the 3rd doesn't feel like you "love them less."
