Please calm me down...

Allison got her 12 month shots yesterday (two, Hep A - first time and Pneumococcal - fourth time).  She has NEVER had more than a low fever (99-100) as a reaction.

Last night she hardly slept.  Poor girl woke up a lot crying, but went back to sleep.  This morning she was sitll running a fever (100) and was so lethargic.  Normally I can't get her to sit still in the mornings but today she just clung to me acting very sleepy but not sleeping.

Daycare called and she isn't any better...and not eating.  I called and left a message for the doctor but haven't heard back yet.  I'm trying to refrain from consulting Dr. Google but I'm freaking out a little here...

Anyone else have reactions like this to shots?

  • DS had a bad reaction to his 6 month shots so I am dreading the 12 month ones on Friday (at 9 months he just had a flu shot and did fine with that).  He was out of sorts for a couple of days, got big red welts on his legs where they gave him the shots, and threw up a couple of times.  I took him back to the pedi and they said that it is considered an adverse reaction to the shots but not a big deal, and that he probably just had a strong immune response.

  • It is killing me to be at work when she just needs comfort...I may be leaving early because of this.  My poor girl needs her mommy!

  • Ian acted "different" after shots at 6mo.  He was really grumpy that afternoon, and the next day acted as you've described...low grade fever, clingy, didn't want to eat, and slept a lot.  I'd say it's probably just the shots and if she's not back to normal by tomorrow contact the dr.

  • I didn't get to go to Eli's 1 year appointment but DH got told by our ped that even though shots in the past didn't affect him, they still could now. I guess sometimes there is a delayed reaction and as they get older, they get affected by shots.
