Can you tell if your baby flips?

Just wondering if anyone has been able to tell when their baby flipped to head down...

Up until today, almost every "kick" (obviously I have no idea what actual body part is pushing on my uterine walls) has been on one side or the other, and suddenly today, I'm getting strong "kicks" at the top of my uterus in my ribs!  Of course, I imagine LO will still be doing a lot of moving around in the next 11 weeks, but just curious if anyone has definitively been able to feel "the flip".

  • Nah I have no idea! I've tried reading the belly mapping spinning website and it beats me. Hmph.

  • I couldn't tell when it happened, but then I had a doctors appointment two weeks ago where she said she thought he'd flipped, and a week later an u/s that confirmed it!

  • All "kicks" were low and then all of a sudden I had a couple days of serious discomfort from what i assume was my uterus stretchig for her new positioning. Then started feeling "kicks" up high in my ribs. I told DH i though she flipped and then At the OB two days later ultrasound said she had.

  • I just had an u/s today and the baby was head down. I had an u/s 3 weeks ago (they were checking growth at both u/s) and she was breech. I have no clue when she flipped, I assume it was a gradual process because I can't imagine not noticing a 3lb baby doing a 180 in my belly without feeling it haha.

I had the exact same feeling you described.. kicks felt really low when she was breech, and now I'm getting kicked in my upper right side.. that part is definitely noticeably different.. but I honestly have no clue when she turned.

  • i knew. i had a bunch of movement down low in my girly area, then in the middle of the day one day he did some CRAZY roll. i had no idea what he did but it was the weirdest feeling ever. after that point all the movement has been in my ribs and side, nothing in my girly parts. i assumed he went head down. i saw my doctor after that and ask if she could tell what position he was in, she confirmed he was head down.

  • Mine went from head down to transverse two weeks ago, and I could tell. Hoping he will move back soon!

  • I definitely felt him flip. Biggest movement I have felt. And it was right after MH told him he needed to flip soon. The places I feel movement now are definitely different than they were before. I was really convinced when I started feeling hiccups in my butt.

  • My baby flipped at 29weeks bcos I felt his hiccups so low,so I knew he was head down and my OB confirmed it.
  • I never had a clue with either pregnancy. DS1 was transverse [lying sideways] though and when he moved to head down at 35w/36w it was like a tidal wave in my belly. I knew he moved, but I had no idea which way!

  • Thanks for all your input, ladies!  It is so interesting reading about everyone's experiences.  I think I may have felt some hiccups way down low this morning.  I don't feel hiccups often, but I'm pretty sure that is what was going on (anterior placenta, so sometimes it is a little difficult to tell).  I had some big strong kicks to my ribs this morning, so FX that means baby has flipped and that she will be head down when the time comes.

  • I had been feeling all bumps and 'kicks' right at my middle, so I'm guessing that he was transverse, but the other day I definitely felt hiccups much lower on my left, so now I'm thinking  he's kinda diagonal in there, lol, and more pushing out to my sides, but it's still mostly right in the middle around my belly button.

  • I only know because my Dr told me she was head down at 27 weeks. I can feel bum and back but I probably wouldn't know that for sure if I wasn't told she was head down. I certainly didn't feel any "flipping" though.
  • I didn't feel the actually "flip"... but I could tell he was head down bc when he gets hiccups, I feel the twitch way low near my pube line, and legs/feet/knees up near my ribs, always pushing on the right side. and the coolest thing ever - I can feel when he puts his hands up near his face bc he is so far down there. love love love this part of pregnancy!!!

My dr confirmed on Monday that he is in the exact position I figured him to be, head down with his back to my left side looking towards my right side.
