Breast Pumps !

In Need of advice on Breast Pumps.

ive researched them for awhile now and still cannot make a decision ! Medela is out of the question, for 1 the price is outrageous, and there's TONS of reports of mold growing in the tubing and the machine itself. Not something I'm willing to risk. But is there a pump out there that you would recommend ? If so, why? And how long has it lasted you ?

I opted for the Ameda Purely Yours mainly for the reason that it is a closed system and I was concerned about the mold/bacteria issue as well. nbsp;It is a lot less expensive than the Medela PISA, but since I am a FTM, I don't know how long it will last. nbsp;It did get excellent reviews though!
This. I pumped 3x per day for 9 months with this pump and it was great. Bonus, you can sell it when you are done since its a closed system. Check with your insurance to see if they will cover the pump.

I have this one.  Or at least the Purely Yours Ultra Double.  I've used it for 2 kids and will use it again.  Just have to get new valves and diaphragms.  And I did buy a set of different sized flanges with DD#2 and that made a huge difference in my pumping experience.  I absolutely love this pump and recommend it to everyone.

  • I used the Ameda for 11 months with my daughter and it was a great experience- I plan to use the same pump with this one. I purchased the XXL flanges from Amazon and it really helped me- I have larger breasts and found it to be more comfortable. Good luck!

  • Definitely check with your insurance, as this might influence your decision.  I found out that there were really three main models that were covered by my insurance - a Medela (which, as you've said OP, is *not* a closed system), the Ameda Purely Yours, and one of the Hygeia pumps.  The last two are both closed systems, but based on a lot of reviews, it seems Ameda has much better customer service.

As a FTM, I can't give you advice on what works best - but the Ameda has really good reviews on function and, like I said before, customer service.  My insurance covers the pump 100% as long as I purchase it within the 30 days after birth - so that's also something to consider.

  • The Avent Double Electric!  I had it and the Medela PISA and it worked just as well.  The Avent is a closed system unlike Medela so there is no worry about the tubing or motor.  It is still pricey but much less than the Medela.

I have the double as well and it worked great when I pumped for DD.

  • Ameda Purely Yours! My insurance sent me mine, for free- including all the bags I'll ever need! Check your insurance- otherwise, the Ameda would be your best investment, IMO!
  • I have the Medela Pump in Style Advanced, and used it with DS (who is almost 3) and have used it again. I've never had a problem with mold of any kind, and I still use all of the original parts. I know that you said the price is out the question, but just giving my $.02

That being said, the Medela isn't really that practical for me. I'll return to classes next week and I need to pump while I'm away. I'm thinking about getting the Avent single manual pump to use for those times--- it got great reviews.

  • Thank you guys ! I never would have thought my insurance could cover a Breast pump but I called and they do !! %100 !! I'm very excited about that :D

I've seen only good reviews on Ameda , someone also recommended The First Years, but that one seams to cheap to be a reliable electric pump... ? I'm between the 2 right now.

  • If you want manual the Philips avent pump is the way to go. Depending on how much you are going to be pumping would depend if a manual is going to be enough. I am staying home with my baby for a year so I plan to just get this because I don't think I'll be pumping much anways. It really depends on your needs.
