JBLM Housing Question

Any ladies live onpost at Lewis? I am trying to navigate the wait lost process. My husband was told that we can apply for housing with orders, but our names will not actually go on the list until he signs into his new unit in June. There is a 60-90 wait and I am wondering what people have done in the meantime while waiting. Any help or info would be appreciated.

Re: JBLM Housing Question

  • We live off base at JBLM. We moved there in April, put our name on the list for on base housing and have still not received a call saying we got housing almost a year later now. Luckily we didn't wait around and found our own housing, and maybe our situation is just a fluke, but I personally would not put a lot of stock in their 6090 day claim.

  • Thanks for the reply. Fortunantly, I am from the area, so we have family to stay with while we wait if we don't end up finding anything we like off post right away. What area did you end up in? I am thinking DuPont or Lacey because DH wants to be close to post and I know traffic can be pretty terrible on I-5.

  • Oh thats good!  We are out in Yelm.  We wanted to live in Dupont or Lacey but Dupont did not have anything available while we were looking (at least nothing under $1800/month, which we did not want to spend) and most of the places we looked in Lacey did not have fenced in yards and we have 3 dogs.  If we had more time I am sure we could have found something but we were living in a motel with 3 dogs and I was 5 months pregnant, so we just needed to get in to a place.  Now that we are there we really like Yelm, our house is great, beautiful big backyard and its super safe there, but it takes my H about 25 minutes to get to work in the morning.  Good thing though is you dont need to take the freeway from Yelm, its all side streets to the east gate.

  • Did you ladies use AHRN when looking for a house? The most important thing to us is location (as close to post as possible) and neighborhood. I am really looking at Dupont as our best option (besides actually living on post). Our BAH is around $1750, so looks like housing in that area is right within our budget.
