who knew the greatest toy ever was sitting in a random bin at the grocery store. I bought DS one of those big rubber balls - the kind that have been around since we were kids - and he freakin LOVES it! best $1.99 I've spent in a long time!

We have one too and LO loves it! He thinks it is the best thing ever. He rolls it around all the time. He likes when we roll it to and from him. I agree great toy!

I made a similar purchase a while back. I bought a set of stacking cups for $1.50 he is always carrying one around.

Have to love the simple things!

Yes!! I teach dance and some weeks I have to take DD with me to the studio. Usually she's great for the first half hour and then cries to be picked up the rest of the time. Last week, though, she found one of those balls and it kept her happy and occupied almost the whole time! I almost don't want to buy one for home because I don't want the novelty to wear off!

I'll up the cheapness factor and let you know that my son has been playing with a non-helium balloon that we got for free at a restaurant for the past three months. It's his go to toy and probably the one that he has played with the most consistently. I've meaning to buy one of those balls, too, but I keep forgetting since the balloon has been working so well!

So funny to read all the responses! DS has stacking cups and they, too, are a huge hit in our house, as is the basket of magazines. I quickly realized I better pull any recipes, etc. I want to save out of magazines lest they become a crumpled wet mess!

DD2's favorite chew toy is a silicone collapsable measuring cup. I put it in the fridge, and its cold and she gnaws on it like her life depends on it.

After chasing DD out of the cat's food and water 4 times in 30 minutes, I moved the bowls to the bathroom counter. Calico isn't so impressed with that but makes my life easier. DD mostly liked to empty the water dish all over herself and the floor.

Yes! When it comes to "non-toys", the remote and dog bowls tops the list at our house too. We have to hide the remote when we're sitting on the sofa with him but it's like he has a sixth sense for it and finds it everytime (fake toy remotes do not anywhere near the same allure). And, the minute he hits the floor to crawl he heads straight to dog bowls. Usually, we're faster but he's beaten us a few times resulting in a big wet mess!

What kind of ball are you talking about? The Pinky ball? I need to purchase it. LOL I agree, my son loves the tv and wants to get behind it to see how it works. He just received 2 early 1st birthday gifts from us. Fischer price Little people farm and wheelies. Prices are outrageous! We only purchased, because we got them on sale and heard kids love them. He plays with them for a second and then goes off to the tv or climbing the couch, grabbing the remote, etc...

I don't know what it's called. It's blue with cloudy-like white swirls - they come in multiple colors. About the size of a bowling ball. It's seriously the most awesome thing watching how excited DS gets when he plays with it. He's so proud of himself when he "throws" it to us!
