Baby Names

Need an opinion! (or two. or three or...)

I do not know yet what I am having. I was suppose to find out last week but LO already has it's mother's stubborn streak. lol. Hopefully this week though!

Either way I want to use the name Carter. Finding a "boy" name to go with Carter is easy. It will either be Jackson Carter, Zachary Carter or Carter Neal.

But... Girl names...

What do you think about Eleanor Carter?

Or something to go with Carter-Lynn?

I like Abigail Carter but I do not want her to be called Abby and I know that would happen.

Re: Need an opinion! (or two. or three or...)

  • I like Eleanor!

FWIW I've found it pretty easy to avoid the use of nn's. My DD is Eloise and I do not like the nn Ellie. Everyone calls her by her full name, nbd.

  • Eleanor is nice. CarterLynn is not.

  • Is Carter a family name?  I like Jackson Carter and Zachary Carter best.

For girls, I prefer Abigail Carter to Eleanor Carter but I agree some may call her Abby.

    With Carter-Lynn, I like Sarah Carter-Lynn, April Carter-Lynn, and Rose Carter-Lynn.

  • If Carter is a family name then I like the idea of using it as a fn.
For a boy, I like Carter Neal or Jackson Carter.
For a girl, if you would like to use Carter as a fn then I would suggest Mary Carter as a double fn. I don't like CarterLynn/CarterLynn; way too masculine. I do like Eleanor Carter.

  • Carter is a family name. It was my mother's maiden name and is my middle name. I am the last person on our side of the family tree to have the name because neither of my uncles ever married. I would really like to pass the name on to my first child.

  • I prefer Abigail to Eleanor, though both are nice. Carter would be a good MN. I wouldn't worry about the NN. I'm a teacher and I know plenty of kids with who only go by their full names even though they have obvious NNs. I also really love the name Amelia. It's a little less common, similar feel, and the NNs aren't as obvious.

  • I would keep Carter in the MN spot. I really don't like it as FN.

Jackson Carter and Eleanor Carter are my two favorites on your list. I also love the name Abigail Carter. :)

  • My mom suggested Amelia and said we could call her Millie. I vetoed that really fast. It's not that I don't like the name Amelia. I actually think it's cute but now I can't get the nn out of my head when I think about picking Amelia.

Amelia is such a lovely name! I would never use the NN Millie for it tho...

  • I really like Eleanor.

And I agree with PP that as long as you don't call/introduce your daughter as Abby, most people probably won't call her that either.
