High-Risk Pregnancy

Any syncope mommies?!

Any of you have any pre-existing fainting issues or low BP.  I have Nero-cardiogenic syncope, and take florinef once a day. All was well until last weekend. Now I'm being monitored by the cardiologist every 4-6 weeks.  Wondering of anyone else is in the same boat?!!

Re: Any syncope mommies?!

  • I haven't actually posted here before (still TTC) but I've been lurking in hopes someone else would post something like this.  I also have neurocardiogenic syncope, although I actually have a pacemaker (my heart totally stops when I faint, no just bradycardia) and my BP does tend to run really low to begin with.  My cardiologist just sort of stared blankly at me when I asked how he thought me getting pregnant would go.  I take it you're having more dizzy spells now?  Feel free to PM me to talk more. :)

  • I have nero-cardiogenic syncope and am pregnant with my second child.  My episodes are so infrequent (one every 1-3 years) that I have never taken medication. Prior to my son being born, I did have concerns that I would have an episode while in labor, but I didn't.  Afterwords the doctor had some concerns about my heartbeat being irregular so they wanted the cardiologist to take a listen.  He came to see me while I was still in the hospital, he listened for a few minutes and said everything was fine.

Both my regular OB and the high risk doctors ( my son was 7 weeks early) are aware of my condition and frequently ask about it.

Please let me know if you have any other question or things you are worried about, I'll be more than happy to share any additional details with you.

  • This is my first, and my episodes are 3-4 times a year.  I went back on Florinef and have been feeling GREAT! up until this past weekend, while at work, where I have to be standing the entire shift (pharmacy tech).  I thought for sure I was going to pass out at least 20 times.  I'm thankful I have such strong indicators and know when to sit down.  I called my cardiologist and saw him yesterday.  He didn't seem overly concerned just wants to monitor everything for the rest of the pregnancy and has ordered Jobst stockings to start. If that doesn't make things better I'll have to increase my medicine.  My OB on the other hand who I haven't yet told about my weekend is already concerned and has told me he'll be sending me out for a consult.  SJ did your NCS put you into the high risk category with your OB?  I'm glad you only have a problem every few years, what a blessing!!!  and to the PP SJ I hope you and your cardiologist can come up with a plan.  That's basically what we did at my appointment yesterday!! I feel really great about it!

  • My OB was fine with the NCS especially since I know my triggers and my episodes are so infrequent.  She essentially noted it and asks at all of my visits if I feel it's affecting me. I'm high risk as a result of my son being born at 33 weeks with no indication as to why.

I've talked to my high risk doctor and they pretty much did what my regular OB did, noted it and ask me about it at every visit. Lately they've both been asking about it considering how hot it's been outside (which makes no sense to me as heat hasn't been an issue in the past).

One thing I thought of while typing this, when you do go into labor, make sure you tell EVERYONE (nurses, dr, etc) at the hospital.  Last time I just assumed that my charts mentioned it and I had a few people freak after labor while my heartbeat and blood pressure were normalizing.
