Does your career determine what type of person you are, or how people see you?
Does that make sense?
Does a crappy job make me a crappy person?
No. Nor does a "good" job make one a good person. Why do you ask? I definitely think there is some judgment that occurs based on profession though, which is unfortunate, but I think we are all guilty of it.

What defines a crappy job? A dream job to one person might be considered a crappy job to another. I think it's just personal opinion. I don't think anyone can be judged based upon their career choice. IMO, it really wouldn't matter what someone else thinks anyways. If the person loves their job then that's all that matters.
Sorry for being weird. Just had my feelings hurt today , and wanted some opinions.
I'm sorry you had your feelings hurt today hon. I think someone's job can define them if they want it to, but it doesn't have to. I know for me my job is just a job. I like it, don't get me wrong, and I'm very happy there, but essentially I'm a secretary. Not the most glamourous and certainly not how I view myself. But hey, I guess if someone else wants to look down at me because of my job, whatever. I don't have time for those kinds of people in my life.

I'm sorry your feelings were hurt. No, a crappy job in no way makes a crappy person. A crappy job = paying the bills and that deserves kudos, especially in this economy, period.

A crappy job definitely doesn't make someone a crappy person. A greeter at Walmart doesn't have the most prestigious job, but I bet a lot of them are kind and caring individuals. I work with a lot of surgeons, which most would consider a prestigious job, and I can tell you they definitely aren't "superior" people. Actually, half of them are selfish wanks. Your job is a reflection of your skills and interests, and I think those are only a part of who you are. Just my opinion though, and I'm definitely not philosophical.
I don't think a job defines a person. I used to tell people I just worked at a gas station. I did, but I was assistant manager at one of the best gas stations in the area. I made closer to 35,000 and it was an entry level position. I didn't like telling people because that's just how I am. People constantly judged me for another gas station I worked at, I was the weekend manager there. It was a small outfit in a small town but I was basically the only other person that worked there. During the winter
DH is a chef and it goes one of two ways, people think its glamorous or they think he is not making much money. Neither is true. However, I tell people he is "just a chef" and he really has a stake in the company.
I have short term memory loss. Do not take it personally if I do not remember you right away.
No longer trying to conceive at all.

this. imo a job is a job. at least you're doing something and making it work. keep your head up. it's taken me 4years to get a job for what i went to school for. keep your head up, as long as you respect yourself and have pride (even if it's not your dream job) it really doesn't matter what anybody else thinks.

Thank you all for your kind words. I know I shouldn't let people get to me. I am doing what I need to do to make ends meet, and I suppose that is commendable. At least I am trying.
Sorry to those of you who thought my post was weird. Didn't mean to seem odd or confusing.

I know I don't know you ladies very well, but I love all of you very much. I am so glad that I found this board. I would be completely lost without you all. I was so lonely before, and I want you all to know that you have helped me find my way out of a very dark place.
