overnight blowouts

I don't know what is going on... teething, GI virus, whatnot, but DS has had loose stools all week. He has had blowouts everynight. Really bad. Soaked sleep sack, socks, sheets. He has to go in the tub right away. His butt looks awful. I feel so bad but how do I help keep it contained? Pampers normal size, size up, and baby dry are not working. Any thoughts????? going to target now...
TIA!

Re: overnight blowouts

  • Overnight diapers? I heard triple cream or paste for diaper rash works well too. Are you feeding him something new for dinner or something? I wonder why it always happens overnight?
  • Loading the player...
  • happens all day, but he is sleeping through the night 77 so it gets everywhere...
  • If you're desperate try a cloth diaper. Those suckers hold LOTS of poo!
  • So I went to target and apparently, if your baby is in the 3rd percentile for weight, they are too small for overnight diapers.  The smallest size is  a 3.  Urgh.  Very irritating.  I bought them anyways.  We may do a size 2 with a size3 over it.  Wish us luck.  I really hate that he is waking up covered in poop.
  • I have no suggestions but just wanted to say poor little guy! And poor mom for having to deal w that mess every morning! I hope he does better tonight!
  • Hope it works out for you and hope your little guy feels better soon!
  • Sorry you are dealing with this, not fun.  You are probably already doing this but my LO used to get a rash a lot overnight so we do a thin layer of salve every night. Earth mama angel baby butt balm is awesome it seem to heal rash in less than a day, and open sores in just 1-2 days.  Also works on chapped cheeks etc.

I second the cloth diaper recommendation but I know its not for everyone.  One thing you could do is just put a cloth cover over the disposable. I'm not sure you can get a cover at target - thirsties duo wraps or sweet peas covers work great - but they do sell charlie banana cloth diapers and you could use the outer part of the CB diaper over the disposable as a cover.  Not cheap but it will really hold in anything that escapes the diaper.

  • Thanks... We are trying the pampers xtra protection in size 3 even though he may not be 16 pounds yet.  Fingers crossed.

Hoping that the stools firm up a bit in the next few days... Probiotics and cereal and solids...

  • I have found size 2 overnight disposables before. (We normally CD but we use 'sposies when we go to my mom's.) Anyway, I think in Pampers they are called Baby Dry or something like that. They're supposed to last up to 12 hours and had a little sleeping bear on the package. I think we also found them size 2 overnight Huggies, but I can't remember what they were called.

  • I would check before you go to bed to see if he has gone.  Babies typically don't potty in their sleep so he is waking up at some point, going and then falling back asleep.
