Re: Opinions that are not so popular...

  • Mine is a judgment. Or at least a major side-eye.

My little cousin's birthday is this weekend, and the party is supposed to start around 2 pm or so. My other cousin (who has a son the same age as our LOs) called my aunt to see if they could change the party to 10 am to work with her son's schedule. Who thinks it is ok to ask to change everyone else's schedule by 4 hours?!  And at 10 am no less! My cousin is so self-centered and definitely deserves a good judging.

  • hahahaha, Colleen, that's hilariously ridiculous and rude of your cousin.

I can't think of an UO or judgement right now.  I'll come back later with one.

My friend's cousin (who I grew up with, her mother is the same way) did the same thing for her Hanukkah party. My friend called the party for 10am and this girl called her and told her to move it to noon because that was better for her... huh?  When my friend called me and asked what to say to her, I told her, tell her you are sorry she's going to be late.

Mine is a judgement too...yesterday on Interstate 495 I saw a lady in a minivan driving about 75mph while putting on mascara and swerving. Then I saw she had a kid in the back of the van. Seriously?! You couldn't have put your stupid make up on before you left? And how about if you're gonna want to die in fiery crash you don't take your poor kid with you. I totally called her plates into the po po. Dumb b!tch.

Totally agree, and mine is in the same vein.  Texting and talking on the cell is illegal here iin WA.  You can talk on speaker, but when I'm driving I see SO MANY people text and/or talk on the cell.  The other day driving on the HWY to IKEA, I saw tons of people doing it while driving at high rates of speed, swerving all over the place and with a kid in the car.  Makes me freakin' cringe.

  • My judgement is aimed towards house hunting, because thats all i have bern doing, but here it goes.
    1. If you want to sell your house please remove dirty laundry, clutter and garbage from the area you are taking a picture of to post online. Those pictures are people's only way of seeing if your house might be right for them. I Judge the crap out of you it you don't take the 5 minutes to clear away thy crap before you snap a picture.
    2. I judge real estate agents in my city that are causing biding wars on houses. I get that you work on commission, but listing a house for well under its value, sparking a crazy biding war that is now making houses go for 60,000 to 100,000 more then they are worth is ridiculous.
Lastly I think housing prices are ridiculous! And 500,000 to a million dollars for a house jut seems unnessecary! I get that people don't have much say depending on where they live, but ouch, that's a lot of money!!

  • On the same lines as jwls, apparently around here it's an UO to think that a house that has 3 or more bedrooms should always have a second bathroom (even if it's a half bathroom).  It absolutely amazes me that so many of the houses around here have 3 or 4 (I even saw one listed with 6!) bedrooms and only have one bathroom.  This is pretty much unheard of in the town I grew up in.  Hell, the townhouse we rented when I was little had 2.5 bathrooms and was tiny!

But if I can keep the half bathroom clean enough for company, then I can actually go LONGER between cleaning our full bathroom that only DH, kids and I would use.  Wink

Wow 7 bathrooms! That is a whole lot of toilet to clean! Maybe I should add that I have I only ever lived in a house that had 2 bathrooms! If I had 7 I probably would enjoy cleaning them. And let's be honest if I could afford a house with 7 bathrooms I could afford someone else to come and clean them!

  • One of the reasons we bought our house is because it has 4 bathrooms. I wouldn't look at anything with less than 2.5. I hate when they list something as 2.5 baths and the second full bath is in the basement with no area for a bedroom down there. I saw a listing for a house that had gorgeous custom cabinets that even had uppers across the sink area, huge jetted tub, Roman shower, slate tiled, toilet closet. Went to go see it, bathroom in the freakin basement which they were using as a basement. Who wastes money on crap like that?

ETA my parents have 6 bathrooms. Their walk in closet is almost the same size as my whole house. We had the worst time house hunting because we had totally different ideas of what we wanted. I'm picking our next house on my own!

    1. If you are trying to sell your house you should probably not have your children running around w/out pants on when potential buyers are entering your house. (Yes, that happened today.. although the little girl seemed to love L haha)

    2. Laying in bed while potential buyers are trying to view the master bedroom is probably not in your best interest as a seller. (That also happened today.. and yes it was at the same house)

Also.. Liz, how do you have 7 bathrooms?!? I cleaned a mansion once in high school that had 6 1/2 and that was gigantic.. I can't even imagine.  I'd be happy with 1 1/2 bathrooms, preferably ones that aren't moldy or unfinished. (Can you tell our price range is wicked low? At least for the Boston area.. sad face.. )

  • I don't get having kids who share a birthday/birth week/birth month.  I'm not referring to people who have unplanned pregnancies, or people who have TTC and will take any pregnancy they can get.  I'm talking about your run of the mill, planned pregnancies without difficulty.  Why not skip a month of trying?

     - And this is based on:

*my DH and his brother who have birthdays in the same month.  They always celebrate both on his brother's earlier birthday and then DH's birthday is ignored.

    * My cousins who are both born on July 3 and had to share birthdays/birthday parties since the younger one was born.  Both hate it, and if one brother is having a "big" birthday (13, 16, 18) the other always ends up with the short end of the stick.

    * My SIL's sister who is currently pregnant with her second daughter. Due the same day as her first daughter's birthday.  Which is the same day as my niece's (her niece, her daughters' first cousin) birthday.

    Gasp!

Oliver and Violet had the same due date!  He was a day late and V was RC/S so she was a week early.  We make sure both have a very special day!

Honestly we did think about it while TTC and we thought they would like to share a birthday.  My brother and I have the same exact birthday.  I kind of like it.  V shares her b-day with my sister, my sister thinks it is great.  Besides having a party which they have to share I take them out on their birthday and do a special activity.  Oliver has the apple orchard, Audrey goes to an amusement park.  Now that V is getting older I will have to think of what to do on her special day.

I guess I'm glad that Audrey is not the one who has to share her birthday because she is the poor little middle child. Surprise  She is kind of whiny

I know where you are coming from, about the feeling of being slighted.  I don't think that is the case here!  I think if you handle it correctly everyone can be happy though.

BTW I had to get KU before MH changed his mind!

Plus also, with a big family every. single. month. was already taken.

  • I am judging to need for a ridiculous amount of bathrooms. :-p

Our three bedroom only had one bathroom upstairs until we converted our coat closet and butlers pantry into a second half bath. Older homes were not built with usually more than one bathroom, even if they had 5 bedrooms, and the bathroom were almost always on the second floor. So if you are looking at older homes, don't expect to find an over abundance of bathrooms, no matter how big their square footage is unless the house has been completed gutted and remodeled. It's one of the things we want now that they didn't find necessary in the past, just like open concept kitchens and main floors. It's really hard to keep the integrity of an old home and add bathrooms, usually they end up being converted closets(like ours).

I think 1 and 2 are hilarious.  I'm really surprised the people were even there, though?!  Isn't it normal practice to leave the house when potential buyers are coming in?

The one house we went to look at yesterday had a potty in the middle of the living room.  All Lily wanted to do was play with some kid's potty, it was grossing me out.  I think it's weird to have a potty in your living room to begin with, but especially when you're showing your house to sell.

And on Blu's UO, I agree in general and for small families, but things don't always work out the way you want/expect anyway.  If I hadn't gotten pregnant when I did, we were going to avoid for the next month because otherwise the new baby would have been due within a few days of Lily's birthday.  But as you pointed out to me, now they might share the same Hebrew birthday since Rosh Hashanah is so early this year.  And I think a lot of families make it work (like Penny's) so that neither kid feels slighted, and it can actually feel kind of special.

Actually, I'm finding most of the older places we look at do have a second bathroom (added in the basement usually, but that's fine by me).  There are a heck of a lot of newer homes with only 1.

You're dead on with this re: older homes.  But I have a hard time imagining how they lived.  I NEED the second bathroom.  When we only had 1, even with just DH and I there was a lot of potty dancing while waiting for one of us to finish.  And I was usually the potty dancer since DH can't hold it.

My mom, her sister, and parents all managed to live in a 2 bedroom/1 bathroom home that is probably smaller than our place and every time I used to visit my grandmother there I was astounded that nobody killed anyone else in such a small space.  And I'm betting my poor grandfather had to use the neighbor's bathroom often since he was sharing with 3 women.

My brother's little farm house has one bathroom.  They are the ones with 8 kids who are "modern pioneers."  The boys just run outside to pee.  My brother is currently building another bathroom.  They are actually building a bunk house!Stick out tongue

I am judging to need for a ridiculous amount of bathrooms.

My mom grew up in a home that had 1 bathroom and there were 11 of them that lived there! I often asked my mom how they didn't kill each other. She said they didn't know any different.

Usually the homeowner is not there, but there have been a handful of times when they are, and it's wicked awkward. You can't really say anything good/bad about the house in front of them because you don't want to be rude or offensive.. so usually we just walk in, look at the house, and talk about it outside of the house.

We went to an open house a few weeks ago where we were not allowed to go into the basement because people were sleeping... super weird!

And that story about Lily and the potty is hilarious... gross, but hilarious haha

I would hate to clean more bathrooms. The 1.5 bathrooms in our 4 bedroom is plenty enough. They're both small bathrooms too, and I still loathe cleaning them. Today is bathroom cleaning day, can you tell?
Hmm maybe my UO should be that I like cleaning bathrooms, it's my favorite chore...

You should head over to Liz's.  Doesn't she have, like, 7?

What?! How big is that house?? Liz....where the frick are you to answer the questions about your house....I know you hang another board, but I need to hear about this house and be jealous about it for awhile!

Ha, I'm here.  We have 6 1/2 bathrooms and 4 bedrooms.  Each bedroom has it's own bathroom and the master has his and hers... we got really lucky.  I'm pretty sure Crystal made sure she peed in every single one, kind of like she was marking her territory.

My judgement is aimed towards house hunting, because thats all i have bern doing, but here it goes.

In my area, nothing under $700,000 exists.

It blows my mind how different one area can be from another in this country.  I don't even think a $700,000 home exists in my area.  You could get a mansion in my area for $200,000.

You should see the house we went to for a Super Bowl party.  They have 5 floors, I think it's about 15,000 square feet.

I don't even know what I would do with that much home.  Can I come live with you for just a week?  I promise not to pee in every toilet.

You must be in VERY  rural Iowa. $ 200,000 is a very nice house in town, but not a mansion. Our house was cheap, but it is small  and old. Dh's bosses house was $700,000 and it's pretty close to being a mansion. Just shows how much difference there can be even within the same state.

Liz that is crazy! We aren't quite as high here but it seems to be the way it is going and it is frustrating to see how little I can get for my money now.
As for 200,000 getting a mansion, sign me up! Where should I be moving lol! 200,000 where I am gets you a small starter home which is what we are in now 400,000 can get me a 3 bedroom house.... Fun times shopping here ugh.

Ha-yes! Well, kind of.  My town is around 8,000 folks, which isn't that small for Iowa. I'm sure there probably are homes not far from here that are well over $200,000, but it's just not common in my town.  Most (decent) homes are between $70,000-$150,000.  There are homes over $200,000, but they're very nice homes.

There are a lot of numbers in this post.
