May 2013 Moms

I'm boarding the anxiety train!

So I just started my online classes this week to finish up my BA degree. I'm pretty excited about it but at the same time I'm having one of those "oh crap what did i get myself into" moments. I have a 5 year old step daughter at home and trying to balance that with school will be an adjustment enough let alone adding a newborn to the mix. Not to mention yesterday DH said "I just hope you can handle it when baby is born". I really wanted him on my side to support me, not doubt me. Im nervous enough as it is!

Is anyone else going back to school/planning to continue school once LO is here? Am I really this crazy thinking I can do this??

  • You can do it! I am sure lots of the BTDT working moms will have great advice for you :)

Good thinking. I'm also balancing a 40hr+ work week. Luckily I have an office job that will allow me to work on school stuff during my lunch breaks. But I can't depend on 30 minutes every day to get it all in. And obviously I won't have the luxury of "lunch break" when I'm at home with a newborn! lol

  • I'm right there with you going back to school.  I'm in the process of signing up for online classes for this semester.  When I did classes last semester, I did a lot of studying during naptimes and at night.  That's my plan for now too.

     Good luck!

  • You can do it!  I finished grad school while working full-time after my son was born. My advisor suggested I take a few months off after the baby was born to get adjusted to life as a new mom and I think that was great advice.  When I went back after the short break, I was ready to go and motivated to finish. It will be hectic and crazy but you will feel so proud of yourself when you are finished!

  • I have a 21 year old daughter. When she was two years old, I went back to college full-time and got my Bachelor of Fine Arts. I graduated when she was six.

Fortunately, my husband's work schedule allowed him to watch her while I went to class. But, she was there while I studied for every test, worked on every project and wrote every paper. It was good for her to see her momma work hard at getting an education and she was not worse for the wear. Sure, sometimes I had to read the same paragraph 5 times before I actually comprehended what my eyes were scanning, but I graduated with 8 semesters of straight 'A's and summa *** laude.

You can do it. You totally got this.

[EDIT: I cannot believe TB censored 'summaCUMlaude.' Hilarious]

  • Yep, I'm planning to do a PhD in October if I can get the funding. I'm
Worried about how I'll juggle things. Where there's a will there's a way.

  • Good luck, girl!  I'm not going back to school but I plan to work up until the baby is born and continue working right after I heal. I own my own business and there is nothing I can do to stop me from be successful.

I didn't realize you also worked full time---wowza!  That is a full plate :) but all of that hard work will pay off.

  • I'm glad I found this post. I start my nursing program in August which will be 36 hours a week plus work. It wasn't in my original plan to have to do this program and so we thought it was still good timing to try for LO. Well plans changed and this is the program I have to do and I'm stressing out so bad about it!!
