FTM here. When did you have your shower/s? Where they during the "normal" late third trimester or did you move them up a bit or a lot? Where your multiples your first pregnancy, thus more likely your "big shower".
My mom and her friends have mentioned a shower but don't feel like they should throw one until the last month maybe two since thats when they are traditionally. I feel with multiples this would be rediculously late and honestly I couldn't even attend since I could travel the distance safely at that point. So why bother?
I guess my point how did your shower planning go?

I would definitely tell them you can't travel after a certain date and doing it early is recommended for multiple pregnancy because of possible bed rest and early delivery and it just gets tough at the end!!
I had mine around 26-27 weeks, and I had to travel four hours to get to it (my mom hosted it in my hometown). I tried to make it very early just in case, and as it turns out it was good I did! I was put on bed rest the week before the shower, and remained on it until I delivered at 37.5 weeks. I was able to attend my shower (I had to stick to the bed rest at my parents' house and stop frequently during the trip) but that was the last outing I had until the babies were born.
With my singleton, my shower was exactly 2 months before my due date so I was probably 31 weeks. I don't think having a shower for twins around 28 weeks is too early. I think your mom needs to understand that twin pregnancies are different and you can't necessarily do what's "traditional".
My family is throwing me a "sprinkle" for this pregnancy and I first said early April (2 months before due date) then said March would probably be better. This will be a small gathering of just family in someone's house but I still want to get it out of the way so I know what we have and what we still need to get to be ready for the babies.
Good luck. I hope your mom understands!

My original due date was end of May.
First shower with close friends was end of January. Enjoyed gathering.
2nd shower with my family was mid-March and I felt horrible. Was laying on couch whole time, swollen everywhere, couldn't breathe. did not enjoy shower.
Delivered babies about 2 weeks later in early April at 33 weeks unexpectedly.
3rd shower with hubby family was scheduled for the weekend that the babies were born (first Sat in April). Shower cancelled and rescheduled to when babies were almost 3 months old.
Again, my original due date was not until end of May.
Schedule showers sooner rather than later. Much sooner than normal. You never know what is going to happen with twins.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that at 26 weeks I would probably be EXHAUSTED and have a tough time prepping my nursery/washing clothes and being happy about it. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it's possible, but why wait?
I had my showers at 21 and 23 weeks - mostly due to needing to travel via plane to get to both, but I'm OVERJOYED that I had the foresight to push for early showers.

With my first, I had my "big" shower at almost 36 weeks. It was too late. Not because I was exhausted or couldn't do the nursery but because I was uncomfortable. It probably wouldn't have been a big deal except that we have big families and I was opening gifts for close to two hours.
Like PP, I'm not a fan of second showers, but my mom and mil insisted and are throwing us a smaller shower, because it's twins, this weekend. I'll be 32 weeks. I don't see anything wrong with that timing. My sister said they were originally talking about the end of February and she put her foot down and said that was way too late.
I'm superstitious. I could never have a shower before I was in my third trimester. I would be way too worried about jinxing anything.
If it were local I probably would have gone a little later, but I 'm in the minority and wasn't uncomfortable until 3536 weeks.

My work just threw one for me (22wks), but mostly b/c my boss is going on assignment for 3 months. My family is the opposite and isn't able to come together until my 28th week!! That was the latest I would allow! TOO much after that time frame. Then again, I'm a planner. I can't wait that long knowing the increased possibility of early delivery! Good Luck!
