Road trip

We are going south for February break to visit family and get some sunshine, and while I am so excited, I must admit I'm anxious to bring LO since she's still so young she will be 10 wks when we go. We went to visit DHs family 3 hours away a few weeks ago and she slept both ways. She is good in the car, I think she likes the vibrations, but I'm nervous about the length of the trip... 13ish hours. It's me, DH and my mom, so we can take turns driving and taking care of baby girl, i.e. entertaining her, monitoring poops and just making sure she is OK,. We can stop as often as necessary but I guess I feel bad about putting her in the carseat for so long. I breastfeed on demand but plan to bring along the pump. LO normally sleeps at least 5 hours straight at night but 'bedtime' isn't till around midnight or 1, so with that in mind we are going to leave around then. Any tips or advice to make the trip go smoothly? TIA!

Re: Road trip

  • We took my FB from northern Idaho to Seattle at about 12 weeks, it was a 6 hour drive there. I say just take your time, if she gets antsy, stop and give her some freedom. Even with her being 2 now we have to take our time traveling. We just took a trip last summer that was 16 hours and it turned into two days of driving. The main thing to me was to not stress too much about getting there, you'll get there eventually. If she does good in the car now she might do well, or she could do terribly. You won't really know until you get on the road for a few hours! Good luck though :)
