I'm not ready to start this yet, but just want some ideas. What's better, a seat that you can just put on the regular toilet or a potty chair? I don't want to have to hold him or help him balance on the regular toilet but I don't really have room for a potty chair either. Also, with boys, do you teach them to sit facing outward or facing the toilet since they'll ultimately stand up to pee? Obviously if he's pooping he'll face outward so maybe I just answered my own question. Any thoughts?
Re: Potty training

"Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time." --Thomas A. Edison
First DS is currently wearing the jammies in your siggy.
Second, mom said to make them sit facing forward.
Third, I found that the potty chair was a good thing to have to start with when we were training DD. Some kids are afraid of the toilet or potty so when she was 18 months old we started sitting her on it in front of the TV or in her room or wherever. She got used to it. I also started bring her into the bathroom with me at that age.
If you do decide to start early, I strongly suggest that you don't force the issue. If after the first day you have no success, stop and wait a few months before you try again.
I first taught Oliver to sit onb the toilet (facing out) because we tried the standing up and peeing thing and it was a mess.
After he got the gist of that down I had MH show him how to pee standing up. they did the whole box of cheerios thing. (Most potty chairs have a pee guard for boys.
My kids trained later so we just used the toilet seat insert, we always had a stool pushed up against the toilet so their feet wouldn't dangle. I will not start training Violet until either she want's to on her own, or she is2.5-3 years old. I really hate potty training.

Yes!! This is why I brought it up. DS will start grabbing at himself and run to get a diaper, so I thought I may try just putting him on the potty and see what he does. I'm sure it will be a total fail, but whatever!
