Baby Showers

your opinion on "prizes" for shower?

We're not doing a bunch of games but I do want to do either the timer thing or the bingo game during gift opening just to keep it fun for the guests (HUGE shower....)

I'm struggling with prizes.

A part of me thinks it would be kinda fun to do lottery tickets.  Maybe a bundle of 3 or 5?  The Mom struggled with IF and considers herself very "lucky" to finally be pregnant with twins so I'd kinda explain it like that....  sharing the "luck".  And how fun would it be if someone actually won big during the shower?

But what about those who don't actually win anything?  Would that tick you off?

Does this sound cheesy?  Fun?  Stupid?

Any other fun or creative "prize" ideas you'd like to share?

TIA

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

  • I like the idea of lottery tickets, although I wouldn't make the infertility connection a big deal.

The other prize I've liked was a $5 Starbucks card.

  • The tickets sound like a really cute idea, and so does Starbucks (although now I'm craving a frappaccino)

  • lottery tickets sound fun and easy. At a lot of showers I see the bath and body works lotions and potions given as prizes. When they are on sale the small sizes are very reasonably priced and most people like them.

  • I like the lottery ticket idea. My friend gives them out all the time and they go over well.

Candles work well as well as stationery cards with matching ink pens (in the same color theme as the shower are good gifts.

  • Scratch off tickets are WAY better than candles, candy, or any of the other generic dumb prizes I've received at shower.
  • I like the scratch off ticket idea, or the Starbucks gift cards - both great ideas!
  • The host of my shower got bath and body works hand soaps for everybody who will be there. For game prizes (only a few not many games) some candles and home made (dish) scrubbies.

  • They gave lottery tickets at my DD's shower and they were a big hit.  Several people won $2 and some $5.  Not sure if anyone won more.  No one seemed upset if they didn't win though.  The Starbucks $5 card is definitely a good idea and a definitely hit, if you want to spend that much per prize.  It depends on how many prizes you plan to have.

  • i just threw a shower for a friend & we only did the bingo.  i fount the big jar candles at the craft shop on sale 5 for $10.  i know alot of people think candles are stupid, but these were the really nice jar candles in holiday scents.  everyones house i go to has these anyway, so its very practical, and people who win actually "win" something they can use.  we bought 10 & wrapped them in tissue and cellophane & people loved them.
  • I think prizes for games is fun and gift cards to places like starbucks sound like a better idea to me.  One of the things that worked well at my baby shower and one for my friend was to do... raffle tickets kind of... for diapers (something else you need a lot of would work well too.) At our showers, I think we did one ticket for every 20 diapers the person brought to the shower and the tickets got entered into a drawing for a gift card to walmart (its the only store in the town I live in.)
