My husband and I are deciding on names for our daughter. My grandmother, Maria who was called Mary, died the week before I found out I was pregnant and was very important to us. We don't want just Maria as she will be like every other Latina around but want to include grandma as her namesake. We are looking for a Mari-something name. I love Mariclare but what I've heard from people is that kids will say she is a magazine (Marie-Claire). In Spanish Mari is not pronounced Marie but rather like Mare-y.

I love the name-- It's actually on my long list, but with this spelling-- Mary Claire.

I have thought about the connection the the magazine, but honestly, if that's the worst association that you can make with the name, I think you are fine.

Mary Clare if you want it pronounced that way. Not a fan of Mariclare, it looks strange.

I like Mariclare, and while it is somewhat similar to Marie Claire, it is different. Plus if she does get teased about it, I don't think that association is particularly bad.

I have a friend named Maricarmen which is also very pretty.

I like it spelled either Mary Claire or Marie Claire (depending on how you want to pronounce it).

I agree. Although I have to say, I never read magazines but I did think of that right away, even though I couldn't tell you what it was!

I thought of the magazine also, but I don't think my kids would. I think the bump posters put why to much thought into kids making fun of kids names. It just doesn't happen that often. Love Marisol!
