I think that I'll start in some comfy clothes but if they get nasty move to the gowns. I don't feel like packing 3 or 4 L&D outfits. I am buying myself new pjs/nightgown for after the baby is born though!

I'm delivering in a birth center, so it's up to me to bring my own clothes. I found a disposable L&D gown, and I'm also bringing a tankini top to wear in the jacuzzi.

Hospital gown, maybe a sports bra. I'm pushing a little person out, I don't expect to look stylish while doing it. I'm ditching the gown after birth for more comfy clothing though.
Hospital gown and a nursing bra. The gowns at my hospital are well-worn from being washed a ton, I guess, and I like the clean smell they have. Pretty comfy, not gonna lie. I'm down with it.
Hospital gown and sports bra for labor and delivery. Taking cute PJs and maybe a sweat outfit for hospital stay. I'd like to put the PJs on ASAP after delivery.
Sports bra and a short, comfy skirt. It's micro fiber, used as a bathing suit cover. It won't be restricting and i can still be modest.
A lot of people will tell you that you won't care, blah blah blah, but I still needed to be modest to be comfortable
in labor.
Hospital gown. I will take my robe to walk around in. I had 30 plus stitches after our LO and couldnt wear normal underwear as it hurt to much. The hospital paper undies worked great. That area was checked tons and I had ice bags down there a lot. Day 4 I think I finally put on comfy pregnancy pants but otherwise a gown the rest of the time.
I don't know if it's hospital policy or just what's easiest for the nurses, but every time I've ever been in L&D they pretty much say nothing under the gown, I don't think I was even allowed to wear a sports bra during delivery with DD. I think they said something about it being best in case you had to have emergency intervention for nothing to be in the way. In any event, the hospital gown was good enough for L&D afterwards however I wore a sports bra and some comfy sleep shorts.
Sport bra and hospital gown. H claims I'll have stripped down to nothing within 5 minutes of arrival. I get sensory overload quickly, and I'm already at the point when I can't stand certain textures. I have 2 night gowns (both about 15 yrs old) that are all I wear at home. They aren't suitable for the hospital after I deliver, so jury is still out on that.
If somebody thinks they're a hedgehog, presumably you just give 'em a mirror and a few pictures of hedgehogs and tell them to sort it out for themselves.-Douglas Adams
I will wear the hospital gown and the disposable panties the hospital provides you with. I remember bleeding a lot. I'd rather not risk ruining my clothes :P
In my head a beautiful delivery gown from etsy... in real life, I will be stripped down to next to nothing ASAP. I cannot stand clothing when I am in pain or hot.
I bought 2 new nite gowns for after I delivered last time. They were both sooo comfy, one was a tank top type sleeve and the other was long sleeve, nth easy bf access. I ended up having a c- section so I wore my hospital gown till the next day then showered and changed. I also had a bathrobe that matched one of the nite gowns.... I ended up being there for 5 nights, 6 days so I got my use out of them... Plus there would be no way I could have put on regular undies, never mind yoga or sweats.....you never know what's going to happen...
After years of struggling with infertility issues (PCOS since I was 16) and 15 medicated cycles we finally got blessed with our son. We got lucky with our 7th IUI using stims...Now we are back on the roller coaster to try for another miracle..IVF cycle in May resulted in a chemical pregnancy. 2 snowbabies FET 7/16-transferred 2 blastocyst...Faint bfp 4dp5dt!
I'm gonna stick with the hospital gown, honestly. I am thinking about bringing a robe with me, though, just so my ass isn't hanging out. I will also bring nursing bras (was sorely underprepared for that when I had DD) and my slippers.
I'll try to find a cotton night gown like I had with DS2 or just wear that same one. Everyone says "Eww, it gets so disgusting!" But honestly, I only got the littlest amount of blood on it with DS2 and I was so much more comfortable than with the hospital gown for DS1 and starting in the hospital gown with DS2.
As for after delivery, I still wore the hospital gown. I was pretty much topless for 2 straight days trying to get DS to latch and anything like a bra or nightgown would have inhibited it. Also, I had 4th degree tears and my stitches were regularly being checked on plus the nurses were making me ice packs which were changed regularly. Plus I had an IV for 24 hours of pitocin drip following delivery because of a huge fibroid. It all just meant that changing was way too much of a hassle and would have been more restricting than naked with the hospital gown and mesh panties.
Another vote for hospital gown. There's nothing "pretty" about L&D. 7 out of 10 moms will poop while they're pushing, plus there's amniotic fluid (mine was blood tinged) screaming, sweating, possible perineum tears or an episiotomy, hemmeroids, several complete strangers looking at & touching your lady parts etc. so frankly, I don't/won't give a flying f*** what I look like or am wearing.
With my L&D with DS I was tearing the stupid gown off toward the end of having pushed for 3.5 hours. I was hot, sweaty, in tons of pain and discomfort and didn't care if I was naked in all my pregnant fatness in front of everyone.
This. I also bought a nice pair of PJs for after labor and will probably buy new yoga pants and a top for afterwards as well.
For FTMs- labor can be full of fluids so I wouldn't wear anything nice. My water broke at the begining of labor and basically everything below was soaked each time I had a contraction until I delievered.

Just the hospital gown.
Edit: When I wanted a robe, I just put on another gown in the other direction
