Nighttime is Hell.

Hmm ok so LO has never slept awesome at night. We have been putting her down at 10 ish swaddled in a playpen in my room and she fusses throughout the night ie: thrashing her legs, fighting the swaddle, grunting and hissing. She eventually becomes turned 90 degrees around lol. I ignore the noises and have been getting up to feed around 4am and again at 8am. However this past week, it has been extremely difficult to get her down at night. I have been trying an earlier bedtime as 10pm is a bit late. She fights sleep and when she finally falls asleep, its back to thrashing and noises all night long. The past few days, I gave up and put her in her swing at 4am where she sleeps a bit better but I dont want her expecting this.

Wondering if I should stop swaddling? Transition her to her own room? I neeed sleeeeep. I read peoples awesome bedtimes....7pm-8am. Seriously? That never seems like it will happen in this house!!!

  • Do you have a nighttime routine to help signal that its time for bed? We also have a late bedtime 10ish that she sets. We once tried to move it earlier but it didn't work, so we go with the later time for now. We feed one boob, bathe, lotion/massage, change into her nightgown, then feed the other boob and swaddle. Finally we rock to sleep. That works for us. Maybe you need more bedtime cues for your LO? Also, maybe you need a better swaddle? We use the Miracle Blanket for night and it works really well for us...

  • That was exactly how my son was! I started putting him in his crib and he started sleeping better :) I start putting him down around 8. Every other night he gets a bath. After I rub him with his night time lotion and get his jammies on. I go in his bedroom and turn on his dream-lite pillow pet and feed him in our glider chair. He falls asleep so fast! Sleeps until about 3 or 4 if I am lucky. On nights he doesnt get a bath, we just rub him in lotion.
I think he might sleep better in his crib because he doesnt hear us moving around and stuff? Also I stopped swaddling him as tight. He seems to sleep better if he can get his hands up by his mouth. He wont take a binki but loves to suck on his hand..

Good luck hun! It will get easier!
